The new EF base with the light shield (from the FD base) in place.
At the bottom of the photo showing the new aperture ring to iris control link at the very bottom of the photo.
Ready to have the new EF base screwed in place.
All finished on the 1D3 complete with a lens hood I bought on eBay.
This view shows the outer EF base from an FD-EF macro adapter(bought from China on eBay). The FD part was machined off. The centre hole was machined to 48mm to fit the old rear of the FD lens. This had the outer flange machined off so its OD was 48mm to fit inside the new outer. The floating rear element attached to the new EF base was in its original place when finally assembled & comes within 0.1mm of the mirror so absolute precision is needed in the build.
To fit the data chip into the base, I had to machine an arc out to fit. The chip is programmed with the camera, & holds the FL (50mm), max aperture (f1.2) & the micro focus adjust data. The chip is an "emf Smart Adapter" off eBay from China.
