Pea trials 2009: Mummy White
An umbellatum-type pea, distinctive for its thickening at the top of the stem and bearing flowers in clusters on multiple stalks. Now very rare, it was desirable in the 19th century because of a claim - completely false - that it had been propagated from seed found in an ancient Egyptian tomb (hence the name). Despite its distinctive looks, it's merely a genetic variant of the normal Pisum sativum - but a spectacular beauty nonetheless.
