Votive candles. In the Western Church, Votive candles are placed before a statue of Jesus or of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Often, in older or traditional churches, this will be before a side altar. Candles are lit for prayer intentions or to say a prayer for another person. The candle symbolizes that prayer. In the lighting of candles we not only pray, but our prayers become smaller symbols of the One Light of Christ and we remember and truly live the words of Our Lord: "I am the Light of the World."
The Gospel book, which contains the full texts of the Gospels, without references in them to the passages or date of liturgical use. There is also a book known as the Evangeliarium. It is a liturgical book containing those portions of the Four Gospels which are read during Mass or in the public offices of the Church. Traditionally, the Orthodox will never cover the Gospel Book in leather—the skin of a dead animal—because the words of Christ are considered to be life-giving. Animal skins are also reminiscent of the Fall of Man, when God fashioned garments of skin for Adam and Eve after their disobedience (Genesis 3:21). Among Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics the Gospel Book (Greek: Εὐαγγέλιον, Evangélion) is very important liturgically. It is considered to be an icon of Christ, and is venerated in the same manner as an icon.
The Graduale and Kyriale-Western Rite Liturgical books. The Graduale contains the chant propers for the entire liturgical year, the ritual and votive masses, sanctoral cycle. The Kyriale contains the text and musical notations for parts of the ordinary of the Mass. The Monastic Diurnal-A Diurnal is a book with the 'day hours' of the Divine Office, i.e.,everything but Matins- According to the Holy Rule of Saint Benedict. The Roman Breviary has all the hours, the public or canonical prayers, hymns, the Psalms, readings, and notations for everyday use, especially by, bishops, priests, and deacons in the Divine Office/canonical hours/ Liturgy of the Hours
