Kabobs were just one of the traditional items served at the Oasis Bazaar’s restaurant grand opening, Dec. 26 at Contingency Operating Base Basra. In addition to the cultural interaction the bazaar provides between Iraqis and Amercians, of greater significance are the jobs it provides for Iraqis.

The bazaar gives the Soldiers a chance to spend money and time they might otherwise use toward junk food and less meaningful entertainment to become more familiar with Iraqi culture and support the local economy.
