Duluth Mayor, Don Ness presented 148th Fighter Wing Commander, Col. Mark Johnson with a proclamation making February 4, 2008 “148th Fighter Wing Day” in the city of Duluth. The proclamation states “the 148th Fighter Wing has a long history of excellence in the national service and in the defense of the United States of America” and “We wish to honor the members of the 148th Fighter Wing for their devotion, dedication to duty and the vital role they play both in the vitality of Duluth as well as the security of our nation”.
The 148th Fighter Wing, Duluth, Minn. was presented with OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program STAR rating at an awards ceremony in Duluth, Minn. on June 15, 2008. The award was presented by the Honorable William C. Anderson, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force and the Honorable Edwin G. Foulke, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health.

Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Norton Schwartz recently announced that the 179th Fighter Squadron is the recipient of the 2008 Raytheon Trophy for its accomplishments in Fiscal Year 2008. The 179th Fighter Squadron is attached to the 148th Fighter Wing; a Minnesota-based Air National Guard Wing.
