Yama Sakura 61

One hundred 34th Red Bull Infantry Division Soldiers participated in Yama Sakura 61 at Camp Itami in Osaka, Japan, Jan. 23 to Feb. 5, 2012. Yama Sakura is an annual, bilateral exercise with the Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF) and the U.S. Military. Yama Sakura 61 is a U.S. Army simulation-driven joint-bilateral command post exercise. This is the 30th iteration of the Japan-Based exercise series. The exercise is designed to enhance U.S. and Japan combat readiness and interoperability while strengthening bilateral relationships and demonstration U.S. resolve to support the security interests of friends and allies in the region. Approximately 800 U.S. military personnel and over 3,500 JSDF personnel are participating in YS61.

120121_Hockey Day Minnesota from Kuwait

CAMP BEUHRING, Kuwait - Despite being deployed, Minnesota "State of Hockey" citizen-soldiers keep their hockey spirit alive with a tournament to commemorate Hockey Day Minnesota. The tournament of four teams from the Minnesota National Guard’s 1st Brigade Combat Team “Red Bulls” was held at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, Jan. 21. When soldiers from 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division woke up to play hockey, they were welcomed with a high of 52 degrees and low of 35 degrees, unusually cold for the 100+ weather the soldiers acclimated to this past summer. http://www.MinnesotaNationalGuard.org/press_room/e-zine/articles/index.php?item=3643

CAMP VIRGINIA, Kuwait - It has been a long 8 ½ years for American forces, the United States and the country of Iraq with all sides seeing bloodshed. Nearly 4,500 troops lost their lives fighting and more than 100,000 Iraqis have died during the war. Minnesota National Guard Drug Task Force receives Adjutant General’s 2010 Army Unit Safety

The Minnesota Counter Drug Task Force (MNDTF), Minnesota National Guard received the Adjutant General’s 2010 Army Unit Safety Award July 8, 2011. The award was presented to the Counter Drug Coordinator, Lt. Col. Chad Sackett on behalf of the 2010 Task Force that consisted of 37 Soldiers and Airmen. The Counter Drug Task Force received a 100% rating continuously.

Minnesota National Guard partners with Croatia to mentor Afghan Soldiers

The Minnesota National Guard announced July 7, 2011 that 12 Soldiers, led by Army Maj. John P. Wisniewski, would deploy to Afghanistan as part of the fifth Operational Mentoring Liaison Team (OMLT). This joint team is part of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and an extension of the State Partnership Program which began in January 2009 with the deployment of the first advisor team.
