Luther Dickinson & the Wandering
Wasn't aware that Luther was opening. That alone would make for a good night. He was kinda like taking questions, and I asked, "What's van-life like with this group?" He said, "Very cool. These girls have the dirtiest mouths!" Overall, it was a fantastic, enjoyable night. Valerie June screamed like some old, old, old Delta Blues singer. Really got into it. Looked like a Holy Roller's convention. Sharde Thomas (drums) did the band intro on a wooden flute at front stage. Amy LaVere is the perfect bass player for this group. Shannon McNally stood out with her hypnotizing vocals and back up acoustic guitar. Kinda "Hippy" style (in my book, that's a good thang). Very pretty. Very cool. Luther professionally let the girls lead. He'd follow with ten smoking fingers, foot tapping an electronic beat bar, glass sliding on the fret board. His ability to make even a Barber Shop Quartet sound good was NOT necessary this night. The Wandering can very well, stand on their own.
