2006-10-21 Lake Dora Scenic Canal Tour
The Dora Canal connects the Tavares, Florida end of Lake Dora in central Florida to Lake Eustis. The canal is a well known local scenic boat ride, but many outsiders have not seen it because you can't drive along it, you can only see it by boat at low speeds. So, here are pictures of a 2006 trip by boaters from the Sunnyland chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society during a commercial tour of the canal. There are many waterfowl like Blue Herons, White Ibis, Ospreys, Turtles, Alligators and other wildlife along the canal, which is mostly unpopulated except by large cypress trees. (Note - these 2006 photos were added in March, 2009 - we will soon add other photos of actual Sunnyland tours through this same canal). The Tavares end of the canal is only about 1 mile from the site of the March 26-29, 2009 Annual Sunnyland Antique & Classic Boat Show in Tavares on Lake Dora.
