In the mountains outside of Huaraz, Peru - Our first campsite at The Way Inn Lodge, 3700 metres!
Playing on boulders around The Lodge
Damn moss!
Day two at high altitude - taking a walk to a local glacial lake, Laguna Churup (4450 m)
Made it, but what now?
So, we we got bored with the lake and decided to summit a nearby peak, Montaña Churupit (5035 m)
Very puffed, not as energetic as I look here :D
View from Montaña Churupit
Montaña Churupit, the left-hand peak - we descended the trail-less front face in the dark, arriving at camp at 9:30pm! The slip-faults at the base of the mountain were very steep!
Hatun Machay (4200 m) - sport climbing on heavily weathered sandstone. And very #!@* cold!
Soaking up the little sunshine before the afternoon clouds arrive!
Jess climbing
Looking back at the refugio at Hatun Machay
Waiting to hitch a ride back into town after Hatun Machay.
We finally hitched a ride...along with 7 sheep tied up in the back!
Peru
On the 4-day Santa Cruz trek - day one
Camp site one--magnificent!
View from campsite one
Steve's rarely used hammock tent; someone should have told him that there are no trees at high altitude!
Donkey assisting in the kitchen. A lot of trekkers used donkeys to carry their gear but we resisted! :D
Day two
Day two - about to hike over the steep pass on Ol's left
Half way up the pass and slowly becoming asphyxiated!
Made it!
Bad weather coming through. It's snowing!
Day two - view from the pass
Day three, campsite two - it snowed during the night and Steve's hammock couldn't hold the weather so we had a guest in our tent that night :)
Day three
Day four - stripping off after a cold morning
Day four - traffic jam!
The road out - thankfully in a taxi!
...and we made it alive!!
Er, Peru.
Ice climbing at 5000 m
Apparently the the largest flower in the world (Puya Raimondi), which can live up to 100 years but dies soon after flowering
El Colarado ski resort, Chile
Snow bunny :)
Santiago is somewhere underneath the smog blanket in the background
Relaxing on the way up!
