WORKSHOP - Jason Collingwood - 2009

Wonderful weaving workshop at Vavning Studio, in Shopiere, WI Hostess Juanita Hofstrom and instruction Jason Collingwood from England. This year's workshop focused on Twill weaving for woolen rugs, with additional information on shaft switching and other rug weaving techniques. A GREAT time is being had by all!

SHOW N TELL at the Jason Collingwood Workhop 2008

Various fiber artists gathered on Sunday evening to conduct a Show N Tell in the Vavning Studio in Shopiere, WI. Previous workshoppers came in with some of their items to show too. We were able to show some of our other talents, not just woven rugs.

WEAVING HINT - supplementary decorative warp

This helpful hint is good to use if you are warped up with a large amount of a single color warp, and you want to weave just a few items with some colored warp stripes ....

DEMONSTRATION - Harvest Fest 2007

Our Loom-A-Tic Workshop demonstration group met at the Harvest Fest in Crystal Falls, Michigan on Sept 29, 2007. Though the day was cold and windy, we had a good turnout. Newest members Lyndsay and daughter Allison joined us, but missing were Loom-A-Tics Jan, Linnea and Cella.

SOCKKNITTING MACHINE - these are my antique circular sockknitting machines

I LOVE working on these cranky cantankerous old machines. I have three of them made by Gearhart, from Clearfield Pennsylvania. The are dated 1892, 1904 and 1925. I sell the socks that I make in my esty store: http://kareninthewoods.etsy.com/

LOOM-A-TIC WORKSHOP - DEMONSTRATION - Ferrous Frolics 2007

We had our Loom-A-Tic Workshop demonstration and sale at the Iron County Museum for the Ferrous Frolics event. Our group demonstrated weaving, spinning, knitting and the antique circular sock knitting machine. We let children try their hand at weaving too!

VISIT - Rainbow Fleece Farms - Getting all of my own fleeces processed

We brought Andy and Patty a large amount of fleece to be processed. Once Patty and Andy had it all washed and dry, and skirted, they let me come on the day they were processing it. I could see the blending of colors and types for some custom work.

VISIT - Rainbow Fleece Farms 2006

The lovely sheep farm owned by Andy and Patty in New Glarus, WI was the site of a weekend open house. I demonstrated my sockknitting skills and got new customers by cranking them socks from yarn purchased in Patty's Yarn From the Barn

VISIT - Cedarburg Woolen Mill - joined with friends Juanita, Norm and Joe

Went back to my old home-town of Cedarburg, Wisconsin to meet up with my good buddy Juanita and her husband Norm, along with Rugsby Joe from Milwaukee. After a pleasant lunch, we had a handoff of goodies, including a bartered sign for our Loom-A-Tic Workshop demonstrations that Juanita painted for me. Then we toured the Cedarburg Woolen Mill, and Don's Resale shop for a few goodies!

VISIT - Iron World Interpretive Center, Chisolm Minnesota

We visited this place on recommendation from Janet Meany in Duluth... Wow.. what a place! And to find three big looms and a weaving display was such a wonderful treat.
