Ladies Shield Final versus Alnwick 09/04/2011
Commiseration to the ladies team, beaten by 3 goals to nil by Alnwick Ladies in the final of the NWHA League Shield. Very frustrating for the ladies, down 1-0 at half time still every thing to play for but two more goals in the second half sealed the game, a few chances for a consolation goal were made by some brilliant midfield play but alas it wasn't to be. But nobody gave up, the team spirit was excellent, people still played well, tackling, passing, supporting, encouraging. If you are going to lose a final then the gracious way the ladies team accepted the loss was remarkable, but it is never easy to be runners up. It has to be said that the ladies had already played another semi final in another tournament the same day against Medics 1 from the division above. It was hot for April and there were some tired legs out there. This was a huge effort against a strong opposition and some strong umpiring, (thank goodness Alnwick hadn't practiced their short corner drills!). Next Year!
