Lakes in June - Day 6 - Round Rannerdale

After a day off yesterday, Hattie is up for a walk, but we are meeting up with friends for a walk tomorrow, so we don't want to over do it today. A local lower level walk seems like a good idea, so a circuit of Rannerdale seems ideal.

Lakes in June - Day 4 - Floutern Tarn

Hattie seemed to be doing better than expected, so her rest day turned int a gentle stroll. We have walked to Floutern Tarn from the cottage in the past, so this time we decided to approach it from Ennerdale for a change

Lakes in June - Day 3 - Barrow

Day two was a Hattie rest day. Day three, another gentle day was required for Hattie's sake. We decided barrow would be a suitable walk.

Lakes in June - Day 1 - Low Fell

Walking up Low Fell from the Cottage. This was the first day of our holiday, and a tester for Hattie, who has just been diagnnosed and started treatment for Cushings disease. She did very well, but was very tired at the end of the walk.

South Ormsby

Parking Opposite the Massingberd Arms at South Ormsby, we walked west over parkland belonging to South Ormsby Hall. Then we walked across 'The Moor' and along farm tracks to cross the road at Harden's Gap. Then up over Warden Hill and down the other side to skirt round Cloven Hill to Brinkhill village. Across arable land to the edge of driby hamlet, then heading back across farmland to South Ormsby.

Oxcombe

A walk through a collection of estates in the Lincolnshire wolds. We parked at Oxcombe, and headed south across the field, to briefly join the Bluestone Heath road. Then turning down towards Belchford Village, we turned off the road onto the first of many farm tracks. Following a network of tracks, we arrived at Teford Village, walking through the village into Little London and then followed a footpath across fields back up to the Bluestone Heath road. About halfway along this footpath the rain started! we sheltered under some trees for a while, having lunch whilst we watched the view disappear infront of our eyes! Once we started out again, we crossed the Bluestone Heath road, and walked through Worlaby and it's beautiful old parkland to Ruckland. Then over more fields to Farforth, and more tracks and fields back to Oxcombe.

Goulceby

We parked at Goulceby Church and followed the Viking Way (again) to the Market Stainton road, then down Sand Lane to Moses Farm, Stenigot where we looped back across farm land to the edge of Goulceby village. We then took a turn across to join the Stenigot to Asterby road for a little while. From Asterby it was more farmland, to meander back into Goulceby village.

Biscathorpe

We parked at Biscathorpe (site of a medieval village), on farmland belonging to a friend, and walked over the top of the wolds and then down through Horseshoe plantation to Donnington on Bain. A little refreshment in my old local and then over to Benniworth Haven. From there we dropped back down to the river Bain and joined the Viking way, back to Biscathorpe.

Hole of Horcum

We parked at Saltergate carpark on the side of the A169 north of Pickering and walked along the edge of Levisham moor, overlooking Newton Dale, to Skelton tower. We then stayed on the hilltop above Levisham Station (North Yorks Moors railway) and walked into Levisham to the Horse Shoe for a sandwich and a beer. Then we went down through the village, through the woods to join Levisham beck which we followed through the Hole of Horcum until we climbed up back to the car.
