Three days after a small explosive eruption on July 17, 1918, a lava dome rose above the surface of the lake filling the crater of Galunggung volcano. By the time the eruption ended on July 30 the dome had grown to a height of 85 m and a width of 440-560 m. The lava dome was later destroyed by explosive eruptions in 1982.
