Prairie Burn

It's been three years since the native prairie grass area have been burned. It makes you smell like a campfire, but it' a heck of lot less maintenance than mowing every week in the summer.

Small Waters Retreat, June 2009

Officers of the Green Cycle Group went to Small Waters Education near Harvard, IL for a weekend in June 2009. We toured natural areas while there such as the Alden Sedgemeadow and did some ecological restoration on the land. It was a really fun time and we hope to do it again in the future and bring more group members!

Earth Day 2007

In a referendum held during the first week in April of 2007, the students of Northeastern Illinois University beame the second university in Illinois to impose on themselves a "Student Fund for Renewable Energy" addition to the tuition. This fund, to be administered by students and staff of the university to fund construction and implementation of renewable energy sources to be used on campus. Earth Day of 2007 was a celebration of that ballot victory.
