Alstroemeria: Purple Peruvian Lilies

I grew these from Denise Rich's seeds from her garden last year-'09. They finally bloomed this week! A bit harder to grow from seed than some other flowers. I usually grow from small slips.

Newest MG- New Ipomoea Purpurea Murasakihigezaki?

This MG has very large heart shaped leaved, and appears to be an Ipomoea Purpurea Hige or Feather of some sort.

Ipomoea Indica Oceanblue MG one week after sprouting.

These seeds came from our old house in Lemon Grove. They will outlive all of our annual morning glories, and take over on the fence when the others are all gone.

I. Nil variegated leaf MG: Not sure which one yet though till it blooms.

This Japanese morning glory has a beautiful variegated leaf, and so far is not growing as a vine as much as a small shrub. Not sure till it blooms which one it is, might be a Fuji based on what Susan in Canada thinks it is, based on all the mixed seeds she sent me.

I am going to chronicle the growth of this interesting plant. In the fall it has branches full of what is actually an eggplant but appears to be pumpkins.

Comparing MG Vine Color

The first five pics show the reddish vine that consistently blooms with this purple MG. The Aomaraski in the same basket has bright green vine color. The last two pics show two of my other MGs - Split Personality with reddish vines, Aomaraski ( in another pot from the first pics) with bright green vines.

Butternut Squash: Summer 2009

I started these plants from seeds from a Butternut Squash I bought at Wholefoods last summer.I was going to put the far one in a square planter like the close one, but it began to flower and I didn't want to mess up the process. The seeds were planted on Mother's day, and grew strong and hardy quickly. The 8th and 9th are at about 8 wks from germination.

Sugar Baby Watermelon Progress

I planted these from seed on Mother's day, in peat pots. When they were a few inches tall I put them in this planter with a trellis and tie up the branches as they climb.

Heavenly Blue I. Tricolor Morning Glory

I started taking pictures before the sun was up: I knew last night that this was getting ready to bloom, and because it was from a mixed bunch of MG seeds from my friend Susan in Canada, I was so excited to see what it would look like. I'm leaning towards Heavenly Blue, or a hybrid of it. It has been confirmed by expert MG people that it is indeed Heavenly Blue, and that the strange splotch of pinkish purple is due to it having difficulty opening, sometimes due to change in temperature.

Ipomoea Nil Fuji No Sora

Introduced in 1995 by Dr. Yoshiaki Yoneda, who hybridized it. Aka Mr. Fuji Light Blue. The leaves are sort of hairy or velvety. Large showy flower. I got the seeds from my friend Susan in Canada, planted them on Mother's Day 2009.

Ipomoea Purpurea Indigo Feathers or Hige? Morning Glory

This one consistently blooms either ruffled or split. I've been told it's a "hige" purpurea morning glory, which makes it have splits or feathered petals.

Sunday Morning Glories

The first pic of the hanging basket shows how consistently the one vine is having only the solid dark blooms. Gorgeous! The next two pics are first blooms on another vine, not sure what. Then the one being called Crimson Rambler or Split Personality, and finally the light blue one that I am really starting to like a lot.

Aomaraski and Rebecca x Joyce Cobb

Both of these MG blooms were labeled Kniola's Black in a packet from an exchange last year. For the second time they bloomed like the striped MG on the left. For the first time though, one at least resembles Kniola's black.
