Eighth phase of Holy Cross' mosaic project, which will include covering the North wall of the Nave with images of Wedding at Cana, Feeding of the 5000, Raising of Lazarus, and Christ's Entrance into Jerusalem - along with additional medallions of the Saints.

2012-12 Father John Kocolas' Ordination

On Sunday 02 December 2012 John Kocolas was ordained into the Holy Diaconate at his home parrish of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Modesto, California. As documented in this album, four short weeks following Deacon John Kocolas was ordained into the Holy Priesthood here at The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross with members of his new parrish and many friends and family in attendance. His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos led the proceedings as the Ordaining Bishop with a numerous other clergy participating as well. At Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross we are thrilled to have Father John and Presvytera Stephanie with us and are looking forward to their time in Belmont. AXIOS!

2012-04 Mosaics Phase VII Installation

Photos from next phase of the Church's iconography project, which includes the completion of mosaics above the Church’s apse area and the installation of a complete new icon screen made of brass and marble with mosaic icons. The apse area’s fulfillment will include mosaics of the remaining Hierarchs (St Ignatius, St Irenaeus, and others) as well as six-winged seraphim, the “caretakers of God’s throne.” Also included is a mosaic for the Church’s narthex.

2008-04 Mosaics Phase IV Installation

Beginning of the Fourth Phase of our mosaics implementation, this being The Platytera ton ouranon. Master Mosaic Iconographer Sirio Tonelli traveled again from his studio in Pietrasanta, Italy to install these mosaics on the ceiling and walls above the Sanctuary. This phase is expected to be completed in time for the Easter celebration this year.

2008-03 Sunday of Orthodoxy

Photos from procession honoring Empress Theodora's open veneration the icon of the Mother of God in the presence of the Patriarch Methodius and the other confessors and righteous men. "If anyone does not offer relative worship to the holy icons, not adoring them as though they were gods, but venerating them out of love as images of the archetype, let him be anathema." The procession is a commemoration of the procession Theodora made with her son Michael The Emperor and all of the clergy and people to restore the icons after the persecution of the Iconoclasts.

Master Mosaic Iconographer Sirio Tonelli traveled from his studio in Pietrasanta, Italy to install these mosaics on the wall behind the altar table. This phase is expected to be completed by 15 December 2007.

2006-09 Holy Relic

In September 2006 The Church of The Holy Cross was blessed with a scarce and deeply sacred relic delivered to our community by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Cheroubim Apostolou from The Theophileon Brotherhood of the Skete of Saint Anna of the Great Larva Mount Athos. The relic Father Cherubim left us is a piece of the Cross of Our Lord, from the actual Holy Cross on which Christ was crucified, a portion of which is now by history and tradition kept in the Skete of St. Anna on Mount Athos. The small piece of The Holy Cross we were Gifted, about the diameter of a nail head, is now at The Church of The Holy Cross forever. This particular photo album shows photos of another separate and larger relic taken from The Holy Cross which Father Cherubim brought along from the Skete of Saint Anna for veneration during The Service of Gifting at The Church of The Holy Cross in Belmont, California on 14 September 2006.
