Tank with fire fitting marked with blue reflector
On this tank the fire fitting is on a dedicated outlet.
A 2 ½ inch fitting is the preferred size.
A 2 ½ inch fitting is the preferred size. Some older tank may have a 1 ½ inch outlet that can be utilized.
These are the 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 inch fittings we are providing. 2 1/2 NPTM X 21/2 NSTM. NPTM = National Pipe Thread Male. Fire hose couplings use the National Standard Thread (NST), so NSTM = National Standard Thread Male
Draft hydrant example. When the water level is below the hydrant the water can be drafted (lifted) by the fire engine or water pump up the steel pipe to a maximum of about 15 feet.
A draft hydrant can also be used when the water tank is under ground.
A home water tank hydrant. (Need to add a blue reflector)
Another hydrant example.
1 1/2 inch fitting with a gate valve was added to the home water supply pipe.
The home water tank is about 8 feet lower than the house and the water is "pulled up" with a pressure pump. A fire pump could "draft" water from the tank via this fire fitting.
One example of the fire engine connected to a water tank using the fire fitting.
