Parc de Merl, July 2011

A summer’s day in July in the Parc de Merl. Still raining hard at 6.25pm. Instructor and four hosts sheltering in the store cupboard. No one else to be seen but rain stopped at 6.30pm and 20 people suddenly materialised, eager to get started despite the wet grass! So, a quick set up of the music equipment and Carolina’s class got going.

Marche de l'Armée 2011 - 20km

Maria and her friend walked 20 km in the beautiful surroundings of Diekirch. Loads of people from many different countries. Men and women, famillies and friends, army groups, sports clubs, young and old..... yes everybody was there! Truly great experience walking together with so many like-minded people with the same goal; to conclude the distance we are walking. All along the way there was music, singing and, of course, drink and food stands catered by Luxembourg army. The army prepared the old recepie “Vin Vichy”, (water, white wine & suger!) a “Roman energy drink”. Maria's recommendation!

Marche de l'Armée 2011 - 2 x 40km

2 days, 2 marathons. Tough! Training, training and more training required to build up stamina for these walks. This was Cynthia's & Monica's 3rd Marche de l'Armée. So obviously a lot of fun! Smashed by hailstones the first day. Ligher moments the next day. Baker in one village rushed over to serve us strawberry and cream brioche - that kept us going for the next 10km and ready to move out of the way of the galloping ponies in the next village.

Buergermeeschter Paul Helminger opens classes in the Parc de Merl

Här Paul Helminger, the Buergermeeschter of Luxembourg City, opened Friskis&Svettis' free family and adult outdoor classes in the Parc de Merl in June 2011. We were worried about the changeable "summer" weather as rain clouds were looming but, in the end, we even had some sun! Här Helminger said that Luxembourg City wants its inhabitants to embrace the concept of "mobilité douce". This implies minimal use of the car but, instead, moving around on foot, bike or even roller skates to reduce the impact on the environment whilst keeping fit. He went on to say that Friskis&Svettis had the right idea in getting children involved in exercise at an early stage of their lives. Annika Östergren Pofantis, the instructor, then said a few words about Friskis&Svettis and welcomed all the parents and children to the family session. Speeches done, Här Helminger cut the ribbon…

Latino Mega Event, March 2011

The Bâtiment Bleu was on FIRE, when hips and butts were shaking to exotic Latin rhythms in yet another one of F&S Luxembourg's successful Mega sessions; this time a hot hot hot Latino Mega session! The participants enjoyed working out to pure Latino and Carnival music for over an hour before relaxing and socialising whilst sipping exotic fruit juices.

Mamma Mia Mega Session - F&S Luxembourg 10 years

In 2010 Friskis&Svettis Luxembourg celebrates its 10th anniversary. One of our gifts to our members and their friends was a Mamma Mia Mega Session, which took place on 2 June. The instructors offered a 24-carat Medium session, featuring the music of one of the most legendary music groups of our time - Abba. There were many unforgettable moments and lots of pairs of silver boots.

The Star Cross-Training Class, May 2010

Nordic Walking, Jogging and Running combined with strength exercises In May 2010 Friskis&Svettis outdoor instructors offered a number of Star classes. These Star classes combined Nordic Walking, jogging and running with strength exercises with and without rubber bands. The Star class includes warming up, flexibility, strength, jogging or running and stretching. And another advantage – the class takes place in nature and in the fresh air!

Friskis&Svettis Luxembourg 10 years - Hike to Müllerthal

Despite heavy rain in the early morning of 9 May, 12 hikers met up in Consdorf for Friskis&Svettis' Müllerthal Trail hike. Fortuantely, the rain stopped as the group took of and they didn't have one single drop during the entire walk. Maria Österblad, F&S Nordic Walking Instructors said: "The forest with the fresh green leaves is at this moment of the spring to its best. After 3,5 hours walk and countless of stairs... and some climbing under and over trees hit by the storm, we arrived back in Consdorf."

Terres Rouges 2009

Viking Hiking to Les Terres Rouges On 20 September Friskis&Svettis members enjoyed a hike in “Les Terres Rouges” . The walk, which was around 10 kilometres and took around 3 hours, took the hikers through the remnants of open cast iron ore mining, old pits and quarries which now have been reclaimed by nature. The hike was led by F&S Luxembourg's Nordic Walking instructor, Maria Österblad, and host Cynthia Tavares.

On 3 June 2009 Bâtiment Bleu rocked. Participants whole heartily followed the Ladies in Red, who definitely had adopted The Look. Participants Walked like Egyptians, had their Feet loose, followed the Ladies in Red and were simply Excited!

Friskis at Relais pour la Vie

Friskis&Svettis participated with a MasterTeam for the first. It means that F&S member ran or walked for at least 30 minutes for 24 hours. Friskis also hosted the warm-up session early on Sunday morning, as well as had a Family session on stage.
