Buergermeeschter Paul Helminger opens classes in the Parc de Merl
Här Paul Helminger, the Buergermeeschter of Luxembourg City, opened Friskis&Svettis' free family and adult outdoor classes in the Parc de Merl in June 2011. We were worried about the changeable "summer" weather as rain clouds were looming but, in the end, we even had some sun!
Här Helminger said that Luxembourg City wants its inhabitants to embrace the concept of "mobilité douce". This implies minimal use of the car but, instead, moving around on foot, bike or even roller skates to reduce the impact on the environment whilst keeping fit. He went on to say that Friskis&Svettis had the right idea in getting children involved in exercise at an early stage of their lives. Annika Östergren Pofantis, the instructor, then said a few words about Friskis&Svettis and welcomed all the parents and children to the family session. Speeches done, Här Helminger cut the ribbon…
