Original Six Mulligan Hill RC Members
The six original members were Barney, Ken, Walt, Gilbert, Earl and Shorty. When we started the field, the runway was about 60 feet long. The grass was anywhere from a foot high or higher and it took a lot of hard mowing on our tractors to get it cut down. And a lot of raking grass. Every time we mowed the field, Ken would say "Let's make it another 25 feet longer." So, that is how the field got so long. And I was glad about that because sometime later, I got into the ducted fan planes that needed the extra long runway. It is funny how when you have a 60 foot runway, you can make a landing. Now that we have about a 1,000 foot runway, it seems difficult to hit the field. Sometimes the field is just not long enough and we land in the trees. Barney, Ken and Walt have passed away but we still think of them as members of our club and how they worked hard to make the field enjoyable for the rest of us. Appreciate your field.....it didn't just happen ....
