Early morning ferry trip.
We're headed to San Juan island.
San Juan is located between mainland WA and Victoria, BC.
It is a comfortable 1 1/2 hr ferry ride on calm waters.
Mount Baker is a common reference point in this corner of the world.
Coming into port at Friday Harbor, San Juan island.
It is a wonderful fishing village now ripe with tourists.
Some waterfront condos.
Lots of water activities to do here.
One of the main streets into the village.
We stopped to see a composting project being done by Mark's son.
Tourists can rent a scooter car like this. We borrowed a car from friends.
A stop to see this eagle's nest.
The South Beach provides a tranquil place to rest and relax.
Some take relaxation very seriously.
Great to sit and watch the world go by as waves lap on the shore.

Now we're going whale watching!
At Lime Kiln park, famous for the whales who like to entertain.
A beautiful area at the light house point.
People come in all sorts of watercraft to get close to the whales.
Mark thinks if he talks from here, the whole world will listen!
Victoria is in the distance. Sorry, no whales yet. They show up in later pictures.
I guess these guys got tired of waiting!
On to the market with great fresh produce.
Many of the locals come to shop here.
It is a small, but high quality market.
The vendors are really friendly!
Across the lot you can look out to the water.
Looks like Mark found something he likes.
Even local entertainment to enjoy.
Tip the musicians . . Note some gave produce in lieu of money.
The stands are nicely organized and decorated.

Headed back to the harbour area.
Time for some ice cream and relaxation around the boardwalk.
Looks like the ferry is ready to go.

Time to move on and take another ferry ride.
This time, we're headed to Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC.
A lot of beautiful scenery along the way.
Once again we see Mount Baker.
The whales do not seem intimated by the boats.
There are usually about 30 whales in a pod.
It's hard to get the camera to click at the exact second.
They like to play and entertain us.
They come right up beside the ferry.
Summer homes on the smaller islands we pass by.
More great scenery coming into port.
