Diving the North End 2013

Photos taken while diving the north end. Next time I do this dive I'm taking the strobes off & shooting available light. It's just too hard trying to hold onto the bottom with 1 hand while operating the camera with the other, especially while making exposure adjustments in manual mode.

Diving Cozumel 2013

Like my last trip I made it a point to dive with a few of the divemasters I've enjoyed spending time with both on the boat & in the water. This trip was divided up between Jorge at Blue Angel, Scubatony & Pedro at Blue XT Sea. I also did a day on the north end with Martin from Dive Paradise who I don't normally use but when the trip to Eagle Ray Alley was offered I jumped at it. That's in a separate album.

Air Show Cozumel 2012

Photos taken at the 2012 Cozumel Air Show. The event was held at the Cap Eduardo Toledo airport which is located about 1/2 way between Chankanaab Parc & The Sabor resort. It's a very new modern private airport and spectators were allowed very good access to the static displays and to the runway making it an exciting event. Headliners were Patty Wagstaff, Skip Stewart, Gary Ward, Fred Cabanas & Carlos Dardano. All photos taken with a Canon 7D & Tamron 18-270 VC lens.

Diving 2011, Colombia Shallows

Photos taken on and around Colombia Shallows Reef. We made 3 trips to it and I decided to try using my cameras video function on the 3rd trip. Once I figure out how to edit the videos I'll either add them here or upload them to YouTube & put the link in the album.

Cozumel Diving 2011

This album is one of a set, each with a theme, this one being general dive photos. I've separated the photos to keep album size in check. All of my diving this trip was done using Blue Angel Dive Shop, and we did several of my favorite sites more than once. As always I've made a separate album for Colombia Shallows to inspire non divers to find a snorkel tour that will take them there.

Photos shot on 2 of the reefs north of town. The first batch were shot at Cantarell, aka Eagle Ray Pass by some, and the remainder were from San Juan.The underwater gardens are very different than those in the Marine Park areas.

Sunday Night at the Square

When the weather is good the locals really make an event out of their traditional Sunday in the Square. Things generally get underway around 8:00 PM, and I don't think it's ever exactly the same as the previous week, and depending on other local events such as Carnaval it can be a great event to mingle.

Shore dive at Hotel Cozumel

Some of the things I saw while doing a couple of shore dives. It's a rather barron area but there are things to see, and because it's not too deep most can be checked out while snorkeling if you're not a diver. These photos are from an area stretching about 200 yards to the south of the new beach club area.

Dolphinaris

Here are a few photos I shot from the sidewalk which show one of the dolphin pens at the Dolphinaris which is owned / operated by Palace Resorts. I'm one of those who do not think that this kind of animal entertainment / explotation has a place as just a commercial attraction. I am aware that it may encourage some to try to learn more about Dolphins, but I'd rather see this kind of attraction shut down in favor of proper aquariums which do research and that also give tours by qualified educators.

Colombia Shallows 2009

This album plus any others of Colombia Shallows are here to encourage people that want a special snorkeling experience while visiting Cozumel into taking the time to find a tour that includes Colombia Shallows. Because it is at the south end of the island it isn't one that most in town operators will take you to, so the best idea is to plan a trip to Palancar Beach Club & use the tour offered there. Mystic Snorkeling & the tour from Alberto's Restaurant may also go there, but do take the time snorkel here if you're serious about seeing some of the best reef & marine life that's available without scuba equipment.

These are from the water but should give an idea of the beachfront buildings. The property has gone by several names over the years including The Reef Club, The Wyndham & now the Sabor and it also shares the beach with The Reef Residencias which is the condo section of the property. The Aura is also here but at the south side of the property & it has it's own pier.

A look back, Cozumel in 1995

Photos in this album are from the slides I took on my first trip to Cozumel. That was in March of 95 and I went without really knowing anything about Cozumel except that the snorkeling was good. I stayed in a relatives time share which back then was called the Sol Caribé and is now (after a very expensive re modeling) the Park Royal.
