Welcome to the recent work of Contraception Education
I'm Barbara, the founder and managing director of Contraception Education, a social enterprise whose mission is to have a positive impact on teenage pregnancy and sexual health, through engaging resources and training for teachers and youth workers
Over the last 5 years we have been a finalist at British Female Inventor of the Year twice, we have also won an exceptional exporter award and received two special recognition awards.

In Berlin in June 2007 I received a similar recoginition at the EU Woman Inventors and Innovators Network.
The work has provided me with numerous opportunities to speak at national and international conferences
It has also enabled us to develop our own training consultancy and to have our own brand of conference "Protect and Respect: Getting it Right in Sex and Relationships Education"
and to meet MP's at the /house of Commons, Westminster, like Tom Levitt
and to meet the Minister for Higher, Further and Continuing Education, Bill Rammel
and to be a guest of Durex at the Family Planning Association's annual dinner
to be a guest at Buckingham Palace at the Queen's Garden Party
to exhibit at international conferences like E-Learning Africa in May 2007
to visit local communities such as Kibera, a large slum just outside Nairobi
to meet the workers at Kisep, the Kibera Slum Education project
and see the real lives of people living in these conditions of poverty
for example a secondary school in Kibera, with no electricity or water, using makeshift accommodation and voluntary teachers
to see what the head teachers office is like in kibera
and experience the life of a teacher in Kibera
to understand the importance of the schools in Kibera in being an access point for a square meal every day through the world food programme
to appreciate the dedication of teachers in Kibera

South Africa
Our work in South Africa has received a lot of publicity nationally and internationally, and we were interviewed live on SAFM (South Africa's main broadcaster) in 2005
Our computer Game "Play-it-Safe" was given approval from the Education Department of the Western Cape on January 2007
Whilst developing the game we were able to visit townships like Lwandle in South Africa, and we met the workers of Thandeka Designs
On a trade mission to Durban in 2005
We had a trip out on a Yacht into the Indian Ocean. Here I'm in discussion with Michael Mowlam
We were privileged to meet Sir Robin Knox Johnson on that trip.

It's such a privilege to have the social enterprise aspect of nursing recognised by the Royal College of Nursing through their publication Nursing Standard.

Working in the UK we have been part of a sexual health "Mystery Shopper" programme. This is an icebreaker activity at the training.
Mystery shoppers kept their identity secret until the project was completed
and then they won a "People Pursuing Excellence Award" from the Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust
I have also been very privileged to present awards for Optimism in November 2007 and for British Female Inventor of the Year in Cardiff March 2008
Working as an Ambassador for Women's enterprise means giving inspiring talks, and helping people on a one to one basis.
