The first hole, no turning back now.
Look what we've started!
This wall is about to be gone.
We moved all the furniture out of the living room.
The board you see will hold the floor for the new pool table room.
This is our temporary living/dining area. It's a wreck.
The house is made of tilt up concrete panels so John has to drill through wood and concrete, is it noisey.
There goes a wall.
John had an accident.
After the accident we purchased him some gloves and he actually wears them!
This is the view from upstairs, it's a long drop to the first floor.
The floor is coming along. Notice the ceiling fan is almost on the floor.
This is how it looked at the end of day two, Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009.
Chris noticed something moving inside the wall, that something was our cat, Sushi. She ran away and was no longer visible. She was lost inside the was for two hours.
Sushi finally showed up. You will notice another board had been installed while she was lost.
The floor is completely installed. Pool anyone??? Maybe some railing would be a good idea.
Just another view of the complete floor. This part of the construction is much faster than the finishing part.
Sometimes we have to stop working and enjoy God's beauty in nature. This is sunrise this morning, October 4, 2009.
View from inside living room looking out.
This is where the fire pole will go so we can make quick exits from the second floor.
John is all smiles about this fire pole thing, he has been wanting this forever.
Looking down from the second story where the fire pole will be.
John & Chris worked hard while I was away.
Notice the built in seat near John's knee, the seat will come in handy as you wait your turn to slide down the fire pole.
View from the stairs, it won't be dark in that room once we put in a sliding glass door.
View from inside the pool room.
We added additional seating so that everyone waiting to go down the fire pole will be quite comfortable.
John is putting on the last piece of Masonite. Chris is making sure he does it right!
This is the view from inside the pool room. Notice the nice waiting room seating for fire pole patrons.
John takes a well deserved break.
The crew is tuckered out!
All of the masonite is installed.
This is the wall that the cats liked to use to go into the ceiling, it's all covered up now.
We're almost ready for paint.
This is the ceiling in the living room. Where you see wood, it's going to be a drop ceiling. This ceiling is going to be very interesting when completed.
This is one of the pocket doors. John thought it would be neat to take out the wood circle in the center and replace it with frosted glass.
This is my first involvement in this project other than keeping the crew fed.
I had to show the awesome sunrise we had Sunday, November 1, 2009.
Finally beginning to paint, even if it is just primer.
The pocket doors are in place. It's really cool because you can open both doors by pulling or pushing on one door. Glass will replace the faces of the two crazy construction works eventually.
We painted the living room yellow.
This is the drop down ceiling I was telling you about.
A design flaw showed up once the drop down ceiling was in place. As you can see the hole in the ceiling is visible when you are not under the drop down. John & Chris will have to rethink this situation and render it.
Plan B is in the works, stay tuned to see the finished product.
One week later and we're back on track with the ceiling.
We had a two week work slowdown due to real estate sales school but we're back in the groove and ready to cross the finish line.
Didn't the living room ceiling come out great?
Too cool for words!
We just love our pretty blue curvy wall.
Another view of the curvy wall. I wish every wall could be that color.
As of 9pm, Wednesday night (11-24-09) our living room was declared a done deal.
The finished living room from another angle. The sliding pocket door needs glass and that's about it for this room.
It won't be long and we can declare this room finished.
John couldn't wait to try out the fire pole as soon as it was installed, 12-1-09.
Now on to the kitchen to see what damage we can do in there!
Move the refrigerator over and no more cabinets over the stove.
The cabinets are now in the laundry room.
Little better shot of what happened
Moving right along we now need to make a hole in the wall behind the pool table for the new windows.
Close up view before the destruction begins.
Step 1: remove inside sheet rock.
Now for the messy part, cut 6 inches of concrete on the outside wall.
You are about to see a white cloud envelop Chris.
Going
Almost there
Gone
What a mess, a white film now adorns every inch of the house.
Knock it all out with a sledge hammer
The windows are next
The window is doing a great job of bringing in lots and lots of bright sunshine!
We decided to give the front yard a little TLC by weeding and mulching. This is the first time I have ever mulched in January.
