Sea lions playing welcome us to swim in Sitka Sound
Hello says the stellar sea lion come play in our water (near old Sitka Rocks where the russians first landed)
He convinced us so we went in for a chilly swim the fresh water flowing in here made it extra cool
Al Checks the temperature
Looking across Sitka sound on our way to scout the course
You want me to start from here??
Heading out the rocks look scary
Captain John knows we'll find a good spot, he doesn't have to swim!
Even in a calm moment the rocks are too scary
Mt. Edcumbe will have to wait for another trip for a hike
Some sea otters pop up to warn us there's too much kelp here
Well says otter head up this way for a good spot (behind inner point)
You really otter go here!
Yes here (the mom ducked under but baby stayed up to squeak)
This looks like a good place we'll come back tomorrow at low tide to start
I hope no one has to put a cross up here for me, this will be the first "land" we'll pass along the crossing (Biele rocks)
Sea otters say you really otter go this way, we like it (middle island)
Here's a good finish point behind Magic Island, so the route is planned
Low tide we're behind inner point, the bears are off fishing elsewhere os I guess I'm ready to start
No bears lots of barnacles
Ralph gets ready
Oops we missed her, I want to go for a swim too!
escaped the bears, heading out from behind inner point
The powerboat takes off, leaving us behind
the water isn't all smooth
I'm done swimming too, spare some fish?
