My practice version of the swimsuit will be made out a fabric similar to this that I found on clearance at Hancock Fabrics. This swatch photo is actually from Spandex House.
Jantzen - available at Macy's & Dillard's. I tried this one on just to see how it worked. The general look was OK, but the fit was as awful as I thought it would be.
From GlamourSurf.com Love the back detailing!
Grimace, from McDonald's. Turning into this is my worst nightmare.
By Carmen Marc Valvo, from Victoris's Secret. In my opinion, the visible crotch looks weird.
The Bettie, from Pin-Up Girl Clothing.
The inspiration piece. It's cheap lingerie from Rampage. (Pardon the lumpiness of Barbie, her stuffing has been redistributed since this photo was taken.)
Sweetheart neckline, ruching, contrast trim, and wide-set skinny straps.
The underlying structure includes an internal bra and underwire cups with allover padding.
The cups are a little too big for me, but the padding is sturdy enough that they don't wrinkle or collapse.
From left: nude stretchy "girdle" fabric, chicken cutlet breast enhancers, pin-in swim bra, sew-in bikini plunge line bra.

Gel beast enhancers, suitable for swimwear
"Large" gel breast enhancers, suitable for swimwear.
Different perimeter shapes
The "large" one on the left is filled in with gel. The one on the right is more hollow, and is made to accomodate a small to medium breast.
Simplicity 1607. Image from Vintage Patterns Wikia. My swimsuit won't look anything like this, but I like the picture. And the fake pockets! And the yellow hat!
My first attempt at flat pattern drafting, using instructions from PatternSchool.com. This is the basic one-piece swimwear block that all the other blocks will be based on.
