Contador looks pretty calm, just riding along, waiting yet another attack that won't succeed. Frank Schleck really looks hammered. Lance, just barely seen in this photo, looked like a man with a job to do, and he was going to get it done.
So close to the podium you can almost touch it, but not today. Wiggins rode a phenomenal race, transforming himself from track to road better than anyone could have imagined. But towards the end of the climb he just didn't have enough left in the tank to match the GC leaders.
It's usually more polite to spit away from your fellow competitors, not towards them...
