Sophia's Album2011--2013

SOPHIA (Glerups Midnight Lady)comes from my dear friend Dorthe of Kennel Glerups in Denmark. Her mother is multi-Champion Kiwi (International Danish, Swedish, & Norwegian Champion Flamencoton’s Andalucia) & Thor (Monsieur Aymon Raj Karpat) who has also placed very well in shows in Scandinavia & is owned by Vivi Solberg of Kennel Frejaminde, also in Denmark. I met Thor to evaluate his structure & temperament before the breeding between him & Kiwi & I liked him very much! Sophia is a very sweet natured & playful young girl who will be two June 21, 2013. She loves to greet visitors with great enthusiasm & affection. She has completed her health testing for CERF (eyes), OFA Cardio, Complete Blood Panel, & Patellas! Her parents are both NORMAL (non-Carriers) for CMR2 & her father is Normal for Neo-natal Cerebellar Ataxia (Banderas Syndrome). I will not need to test her for Banderas since all my males are Normal nor for CMR2 since both her parents are clear.

Nico's Album

Nico (Glerup's Heart's Desire) is a gorgeous, sweet-tempered, affectionate young male from Glerup's in Denmark. His father is Jespersen’s Chili Pepper- a wonderful male with several championships, known for his temperament. Nico’s mother is Flamencoton’s Andalucia (Kiwi). Kiwi also has several championships but most importantly is also known for her gentle disposition– as well as for a beautiful coat. Both parents have tested Normal/Clear for CMR2, Patellas, & Eyes. Nico turned a year old Oct 8. & has passed OFA Cardio, CMR2, Neo-Natal Ataxia, Blood Panel, OFA Preliminary Hips, Elbows & Patellas, and his CERF!!. He has also done very well in his 1 year re-evaluation for Conformation to the Standard. Nico will now become my next stud male & will have the opportunity to pass on the best of his many fine characteristics to his offspring! Hooray! Thank you Dorthe, Rie, and Brigitte for this wonderful boy!

FIVE handsome baby boys were born to Paloma (Cedarwood's Joyful Heart) and Nico (Glerup's Heart's Desire) on April 4th, 2013. This is Paloma & Nico's first litter together. I can't wait to see how these sweet boys develop! Paloma is out of Rock-a-bye Cotons Wee Bonnie Lass and Multi-Champion Azmir's Future Star. Nico is the son of Flamencoton's Andalucia, a Swedish & Danish Champion, and Jespersen's Chili Pepper, also a Champion.

Amelie (Cedarwood’s Amelie of Berengaria) & Nico (Glerup’s Heart’s Desire) are the proud parents of two fine babies: 1 boy & 1 girl- just like last year! And just like last year, she was able to give birth naturally to her little girl, but had to have a C-section to save her little boy. My poor Amelie! She is such a good little mother. The little girl was so quick to suckle. They usually are. It was touch and go with her boy.. The Vets and techs didn't have much hope of saving him- he was in fetal distress- but I knew he'd make it. It took a long time but we got all the mucous finally cleared out of his airways. Hooray! He was determined to make it and he did! Both puppies are doing so well! I’m hoping to keep that little girl for myself- depending on her quality at 8 weeks of age of course! That’s when they’ll both be evaluated for Show/Breed Potential vs Companion Status.

Well, the pups will be 10 weeks old on Monday and we're coming up on the end of the First Fear Phase. Hooray! The sweet white girl had a pretty long one- it can last as long as a few days or it can be as brief as a few hours. She seems to be coming out of it as of today- so she;s earned her very own album. Yay! Two or three of her siblings may be having a mild touch of it now, LOL! Not all pups go through it.. but it IS one of the developmental stages. This is why I don't let puppies go till 10 weeks! So if you see YOUR pup seeming suddenly shy, not to worry, it's temporary and a normal developmental stage. It happens twice in a puppy's life and both times seem to coincide with the change of teeth-- or so it has always seemed to me.

Fanoula The Fair

Cedarwood's Fanoula the Fair is the daughter of Cedarwood's Lilly Light-Heart & Cotonnerie Pirate Captain Tew. She is the granddaugther of Cedarwood's Dark Star of Berengaria and the great-granddaughter of Nikkett's Front Page Story. I am so very proud of her: she is beautiful with a temperament to match! She was born at Cedarwood Cotons in Walden, VT December 22, 2011.

2012-PuppyPatios&GardenLateJune&July

This is the next stage of what I'm working on for the Cotons-- a second puppy patio so I can be sure to be able to keep those eager boys away from the girls when they SHOULDN'T be around them, LOL! My carpenter isn't involved in this part of the project at all, not until I can afford to have him put in a nice fence like the one in the original puppy patio.. not till next year for sure.. so for now it's IMPROVISE!! And even when I can afford my carpenter again.. it'll be like last time with the first puppy patio and all the rest of the work around here: he'll do skilled labor, make jigs so I can saw the fence parts, mark off where I need to set screws & fencing, then I'll do the grunt work--move the gravel, set the pavers, etc. ok, yes, he does the postholes too! Lots of work! And I still have to finish the puppy patio up behind the house.. that won't be quite as fancy though!

Berengaria's unplanned but well-loved babies are thriving and Berengaria is recovering very nicely from her C-section & spaying, thank goodness! This will be her last litter and it promises to be a lovely one despite the complications of the birth. Sweet Berengaria, relentless & determined Momo! Please note.. though I do color correct the photos, for some reason the darker boy looks like a tricolor.. he is not: Both of the boys with markings are tricolor- the darker one is just a darker brown! All are quite handsome!

It’s been a rough couple of days with complications birthing two unplanned litters- Magalie & Berengaria. I wasn't going to breed Magalie or Berengaria until Fall for Winter pups but the sudden homecoming of Momo & Paloma & improvements to accommodate them still in process, accidents happened & 2 unplanned matings occurred. Because the matings took place too soon, Berengaria had to have a C-section to deliver her last 2 pups since she did not respond to oxytocin & calcium the vet gave her. She has 4 boys.. 2 white, 2 tricolor.. I helped wake them from anesthesia rubbing them vigorously & sat with Berengaria as she came out of anesthesia so she wouldn't be afraid. Berengaria was so good the whole time!

It’s been a rough couple of days with various complications in birthing two unplanned litters: both Magalie and Berengaria. I wasn't going to breed Magalie or Berengaria again until Fall for Winter pups but with the sudden homecoming of Momo and Paloma to my little home and the improvements to better accommodate them being still in process-- well..accidents happened and unplanned matings occurred. All is well now but because the matings took place too soon, Magalie had to go to the vet's for Ocytocin & calcium shots and some help from the Vaginal Ferguson Feathering Technique to induce labor so she could deliver her second puppy. Magalie & her babies are all fine now and full of life. Update June 17th: I am sad to announce that Magalie's little white girl went to be with the angels yesterday afternoon. She was not thriving and died in my hands as I was attempting to feed her. Next week will come Caleigh's pups.. the only litter that was actually planned for this Summer! Oh my!

2012-JUNE-Work on yards & gardens

I've been busy with my carpenter and an excavator crew clearing away an old garden I just can't keep up with anymore and turning it into a new puppy patio so my 3 boys CAN'T get to the girls when they shouldn't! I'm also enlarging the "temporary" puppy yard that's just off the little porch so that the new nursery area off my living room can be a nice place for a mommy and her pups to be. The former pond is also being filled in with free fill from the town road crew and in time I hope to create a second fenced in play yard so I don't have to take everyone out in shifts, LOL! I have LOTS of gravel to shovel and spread and lots of patio blocks to set.. it will all take time and money but it will be so worth it for my little Coton family! And it MUST be done now that everyone has come home to live with me again.

Another Coton Home Improvement project at Cedarwood Cotons! There used to be a small loveseat with a couple of crates as end tables in my little living room and not much space for the Cotons. AND it was so cluttered! So after seeing a photo of something online that a Japanese architect had designed for dogs in a Tokyo apartment, I got inspired and decidedhad to make things more comfy for the Family! At first it was pretty hard to figure out.. there weren't any plans online, only a photo of the finshed project. So my carpenter & I put our heads together and this is what we finally came up with. All those little cubbies you see are drawers that pull out. Everything is waterproof and chew proof so everyone in the family can enjoy the otherwise very tiny living room! The Cotons love it! So do I! As usual, my carpenter & I worked on it side by side with him doing the skilled work and me doing the grunt work of painting, sanding, etc. This couch has become not only the favorite

The latest photos of Paloma & Momo's puppies that were born March 6, 2012. They've moved out of the nursery area and into the kitchen now and are beginning to socialize with the rest of my Coton Family. They are just about to turn 8 weeks old now, they've been weaned and have needle sharp teeth so Paloma had to have a break from her children! So you won't see mommy in this album at all.. but you will see them with LIlly & Berengaria and some of the others- especially Berengaria who just loves everyones pups! There are a few videos in this album too. Enjoy! NOTE: Unless I decide to not keep one little girl for myself, ALL these pups are already reserved. Feel free to contact me for updates though. we go for evals on May 1st! That's when I'll make the final decision about who goes to whom and whether I'll keep one or not!

These are the latest photos of Amelie & Nico's puppies that were born on April 18th, 2012. This is Amelie's very first litter! She's a wonderful mother.. no surprise at all- her own mother, Berengaria, is wonderful at mothering too! She has 2 little babies: the girl was born naturally, the boy was by C-Section. Nice sturdy little pups. I can't wait to see how they develop. At this point, the little boy is spoken for IF he turns out to be Show/Breed Potential. I'll know more when he is 8 weeks old. The little girl is definitely reserved! Both pups will be ready for their new families at 10 weeks of age the last week of June! Paloma & Momo's 5 sweet babies will be 6 weeks old on (4-17-12). Thy're already going out the dog door on their own, eating solid food, and are on thwir way to being weaned! They're affectionate and outgoing and oh so pretty! 4 girls and 1 boy. 1 girl is tricolor, the boy is very colorful, the other girls are white with one having a touch of champagne on her ears. Sweet pups!

Paloma2012Pups3-6-12

PUPS BORN-Tues, March 6, 2012 Paloma X Momo 4 girls, 1 boy! Oh my! Miracles happen: I had not intended to breed Paloma till later this year...BUT it looks like the universe had something else in mind. Here's what happened: Paloma had been staying with friends along with her "husband" Momo. Now here’s the backstory: Momo has a history of refusing to breed au naturale (sp) and has for the last couple of years preferred the vet to an actual female Coton so artificial insemination was the only option with him. Here’s where the miracle comes into play: It seems that Momo finally changed his mind and decided that intimacy with Paloma was worth it. Somehow he managed to get to Paloma without anyone realizing it and the long and the short of it is that Paloma is back here at home with me and her 5 darling pups.. Oh my! Unplanned but so very welcome into my home and heart! I am accepting applicants for Paloma’s puppies now! Ready t go to their forever homes in mid-May at 10 weeks old!

Pirate also passed all his health tests including an additonal one for neo-natal cerebellar ataxia. She simply was not nursing well after a while. I bottle fed her but she grew weaker & weaker & at last slipped quietly away across the Rainbow Bridge & now rests with the angels. It was so very sad to lose her.

Photos from the Danish Kennel Club International Dog Show at Bjerirngbro, Denmark, Sept 17, 2011. There were about 40 gorgeous Cotons being shown by some very wonderful, warm-hearted Danes and a Swede or two. I had a great time and Cedarwood's Dancing Star at Kennel Glerups (Kenzi) placed 1st in her class as Best Female Puppy. Hooray! My friend Dorthe (her owner) has done such a fine job training her and handling her!

Cedarwood Cotons Puppies with their new families

Ziva is a Show/Breed Potential puppy from my Paloma & Momo that I placed with Cheri Lundgreen in Arizona. Cheri is a wonderful breeder of Golden Retrievers who has begun to branch out into raising & showing quality Coton de Tulear. Sadie, (formerly Cedarwood's Black Orchid), lives with a wonderful family in Burlington VT. Both are so happy in their new homes! Edidiong formerly known as "Mr. Lola", is a gorgeous all white male from Caleigh & Pirate who has gone to live with a very special young woman who started her Boston-based organic skin care & cosmetics company while working on her MBA. Sweet & Sassy Little Sadie (formerly known as Cedarwood's Black Orchid)

This beautiful B&W female from Lilly Light-Heart & Pirate, born 12-29-10, was at 10 or 12 weeks a perfect Show/Breed Potential puppy in every way but one: her bite! So though she was originally to go to my dear friend, Dorthe in Denmark, she went insetead as a companion quality puppy to a lovely family here in Vermont. Both Dorthe & I were so sad to see her go. We had so badly wanted to keep her. My vet recommended removing two of her teeth to make room for her jaw to adjust properly.. but by the time Sadie (Black Orchid) was 10 or 12 weeks old, it seemed to have not made a difference at all for her bite. But there has been a very happy outcome for this sweet puppy! Just look at how happy she is! Paloma had her sweet babies yesterday, July 12th in the morning after a night of nesting and heavy breathing through which she and I hardly slept much at all! My friend Melissa came over to help & learn about birthing puppies once 2nd stage labor began just after 6:30 in the morning. There were actually 4 babies but alas, one little boy was stillborn. Paloma & Melissa & I mourned his loss deeply but soon welcomed in the 4th baby. All 3 surviving puppies are thriving! Today, with many tears, I buried the lost little one beneath the Bridal Wreath bush next to my beloved ist male, Shackleton. Perhaps one day he will be ready to return to this Earth to bring joy to some kind human's heart! I know that Shackleton will take good care of him in the meantime & that they will run & play together in the Summerlands until then. Enjoy the photos! Paloma is a very enthusiastically affectionate young girl, very determined to love everyone who visits us here at Cedarwood Cotons. Her father is Sune (Azmir's Future Star), her mother is Rosie (Rockabye Cotons Wee Bonnie Lass.) Pirate, the father of Paloma's soon-to-be-born babies, is a wonderfully mellow, sweet and handsome male with Championships in both Canada & the U.S. He was the number one dog in Canada within months of his first being shown! They are sure to produce some very wonderful puppies!

Lisa's girl will be leaving for her new home in just a few days.. "Mr. Lola", the all white boy, is STILL AVAILABLE! He has a really wonderful temperament & personality. He's sweet, affectionate, and outgoing, playful yet with a nice even temperament. He'd be a wonderful therapy dog- or a great family or single person's companion!

These are the latest photos of Caleigh & Pirate's puppies that were born on April 1, 2011. They turned 5 weeks old just two days ago. There have been so many milestones these last two weeks! First solid food, first sips of water, first time outside, and a change of location too! And they're all doing so well! BTW, they just love to kiss, and especially TOES! LOL!

(Born April 1, 2011) Their eyes have opened, they're now exploring their environment, some toys, & interactions with each other. I call this The Age of Exploration, LOL! it's an important time for them to get appropriate sensory stimulation & lots of contact with me.. both elements are integral components of socialization! They also got their nails cut for the first time- not a favorite thing for them! They're also kissing already! Love it!

These are the first photos of Caleigh X Pirate Pups Born April 1-2011. She had two fine tricolor girls & one handsome boy- all white- in the middle of sugaring season during a Spring snowstorm.. Real wet, heavy Maple Sugar Snow! It was touch and go for the little boy at first but lots of vigorous massage, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, & my telling him of the joys of running through the snow, of Springtime with green grass & birdsong brought him back to join his two sweet sisters & his loving mother.

Lilly & Paloma's Girls March 27-April 2-11

These are photos of the four girls who MAY still be available pending selections being made April 15th-2011) All are Show/Breed Potential but I may be willing to part with one as Companion.. All have very nice structure, coat, pigment, and temperament. The Black and White and the Minky Tricolor have the thickest coats at this point. The Black and White currently has a moderate overbite/underbite? that may correct itself or not.. Both she and the Tricolor from Paloma would make excellent Therapy Dogs! The Minky Tricolor might also be good for therapy with the right training.

My sweet Caleigh IS pregnant! Hooray! Caleigh is Cedarwood's Song & Celebration. She was bred to Cotonnerie Pirate Captain Tew (at Cedarwood) at the end of January and is expecting her 4 babies by the end of March, 2011! Her first litter was born last June and were two very lovely, feminine girls, outgoing and affectionate! I can't wait to see what she produces this time! I am now taking reservations for these puppies!

Pups do develop pretty quickly! Oh my! We've already been through several changes with their living arrangements, have added in toys, a ramp, and all sorts of things and these babies have adapted so nicely! They've had their nails trimmed, have been enjoying playing and challenging each other, and next week they'll start on soft foods! These are some very sweet & affectionate little babies! 5 girls & only 1 boy- the redhead!

This is Paloma's very first litter of babies! (Paloma is Cedarwood's Joyful Heart). They were born on Jan 5th, 2011.. well, at least the first 5 were! We ended the day with four girls and one little boy, a handsome cinnamon spotted little fellow but by a day and a half later a sixth puppy had appeared: a sweet little double-masked tricolor female with body spots and a tail spot! Oh my goodness! Our boy Momo (Cotonnerie Mathis) is the father.

Magalie (Cedarwood's Magalie) had her babies on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011: two girls and two sweet boys- Sadly, she lost one of her girls the next morning. She kept tossing out the crate pad I'd provided I'd provided as bedding and one of her girls rolled into the crate gutter channel and was smothered when Magalie rolled over onto her and couldn't feel the tiny body beneath her. Now all crate pads are secured into each crate so that only I can remove it. A very sad thing it was for both of us. The four remaining babies are sturdy little things! Very pretty babies! Enjoy the photos. Yes, I am still taking reservations for both Magalie's litter as well as for Paloma's!
