what a motley crew :) (Ken, David, Debbie, Kat)
Dugout canoe made by early Whitehall settler
We're at the Jefferson Museum, which is just down the road from the house where my grandparents used to live. My brother and his family live there now.
Some of the exhibits were from the Randall Ranch, but it's not our branch of Randalls. The family name used to be spelled Randles.
branding irons
old stove that used to belong to my grandparents
Whitehall cheese was still being made when I was growing up. I remember it being delicous.
Part of an old printing press
A butter tray. You'd pour the soft butter into the tray, smooth it out, then roll the flanged roller over to cut into blocks.
Several kinds of old west barbed wire
Wedding dresses from the 1920's

the Paint Pots in Yellowstone Park
A steam vent being noisy and smelly.
A geyser erupting. I don't remember which one this was.
Different view, same geyser
Notice the orange tint of the steam on the lower left. It seemed to be reflecting the color from the bacteria mats underneath it.
White Dome geyser, seen from Fountain Lake.
White Dome geyser from closer up, after the eruption. That's Kat walking over to see if the sign says anything interesting. (It didn't.)
I think this little bubbler was called Black Pool Lake. Or maybe just Black Pool.
Kat and David looking out over Fountain Lake.
Fountain Lake, with geyser at its side.
Buffalo by the Firehole River.
If you look closely in the grass just above the pool, you can see a coyote looking back at you.
Coyote walking away (to the left, heading toward the trees)
The branch at the tip of this little island looks like a dragon.
Morning Glory pool, looking a bit hotter and clearer than it did two years ago.
Another hot pool in Upper Geyser Basin (Old Faithful area)
Kat and David studying a geyser sign. In the background, the Old Faithful buildings.
Castle Geyser, which did not erupt for us
Artist's Paint Pots, not to be confused with the Fountain Paint Pots earlier. This one is a couple of miles off the main road, and then a mile and a half loop to see everything.
Love the reds.
Artists' Paint Pots from above.
More pretty hot water, with springs and colors.
That little white spot in the trees about a mile away is the tour bus parked near our car.
love the bright blue water
a very thick and muddy little pot with great colors around it
With a plop, it launches mud lumps.
Plop, plop, plop.
Getting ready to plop again. I got lucky on this shot.
Yellow, blue, black, red, orange -- wish I had a paintbrush!
White that's more like soup than mud.
A baby pink in a lake of gray and white.
I think this is Electric Peak, but I'm not positive. It's pretty no matter what.
Yes, it really was that milky blue.
Buffalo, with an elk in the background.
Elk in a hurry.
Part of Mammoth Terraces that's still red and hot. The whole terrace used to look like this. The white part to the right has dried up and died.
Young mountain sheep grazing.
Closeup of same sheep. He looks pretty ragged after a hard winter.
One or more sheep outlined against the sky -- all I can really make out is the horns. One of them is a baby.
