The city of Milton, Florida (population 7800) is the county seat of Santa Rosa County, in the Western Florida Panhandle. It is among the oldest cities in Florida and was incorporated in 1844. In its founding days, Milton's main transportation artery was the Blackwater River, which carried raw timber, cut-lumber, naval stores (turpentine), brick, and ship-building products to its customers in the outside world.
