El Golfo to Tenezar 18 Mar 10
David Speed, David Penney and I walked from El Golfo to Playa Madera in 4.75 hours. We thought that was hard going. The journey from Madera to Tenezar was unbelievably difficult. We, three experienced walkers, got badly lost in the raw lava fields, and spent another 3 hours wandering until we found the road down to Tenezar. Someone had marked a route with yellow dots, but we stopped finding them, pressing on when we could never see more than about 50 metres ahead.
Do not try the last stage of this walk in groups of less than 4 fit, experienced walkers, with at least 3 litres of water each, strong boots, a good first aid kit (If you fall over you WILL hurt yourself.) and prints from Google Earth of the terrain - the published maps are worse than useless because the areas free of raw lava are misrepresented.
