The first indication that something was wrong... Chris Eatough running down from the hay field (2km away)
Chris by the start/finish with the Trek mechanic
Too much hay in the rear mechanism - it dragged the derailleur around and off
Chris isn't too happy, and takes it out on the race organizer
Then, Jeff rolls in with exactly the same issue
Lightweight Bontrager wheels don't take kindly to having derailleurs thrust through them. This one lost a spoke, but it was still very rideable.
Jeff counting the seconds and seeing that first place spot just slipping away.
Chris and Jeff comparing notes
The Trek mechanic and two neutral support mechanics did a fabulous job to turn around the fix in just a few minutes.
Chris just about to take off again.
After starting DFL (Dead Freakin' Last), Eatough and Schalk made it all the way through the field to take third place on the day.
