Our land and dam.
Some more land....
The border is at the lonely tree on the hill.
Sherwood Forest
The Huon River
Our new house.
The view from my new 'office' window.
I saw this sunset tonight... How beautiful is that!
Burn off season, making for lovely sunsets. Our house is on the right.
...and another sunset.
The first day our kitties arrived.
Our first crop!!
PJ and our new toy.
My birthday!
38 candles. That's enough!
BB likes looking at the cake.
The fairies have come to visit!
These ones you don't eat!!
PJ in our veggie patch at the back of the house.
Lemon trees and berry bushes (and PJ)
Seedlings in one of our sunrooms.
Herbs in one of our sunrooms.
More lemon trees and berry bushes.
Time for a walk... Hartz Mountains, about half an hour away.
Beautiful views.
And beautiful people :)
Looking out over the landscape.
The view from the top of the hill.
From the top of the hill, with the dam and our house in the background.
A bit of the landscape where we live.
Lots of fruit for sale.
This is where I buy my apples, lovely fresh apples - and at a fraction of the cost in the supermarket.
Another fruit shed.
Our dam filling up. We have black swans and ducks visiting.
My first Edam (red) and Goudas (yellow). Two more Edams are drying before waxing. These should be ready for trying around Christmas.
Me with my cheeses.
One morning after milking, I realised the sky was really beautiful.
I mean, really beautiful. Milking shed in the foreground.
Blossom on our apple trees.
A beautiful tree in our garden. I don't know what it is.
We think this may be an old cherry tree. It looks like a bonsai, and we didn't expect to see any flowers on it at all.
There are a few rhododendrons already around the house.
Another tree in bloom. We don't know what this one is either, but it looks pretty!
One of our vegie patches. The chard is finally coming along. In the back one there is wombok. This is the second lot from the same plant - it's a lovely vegetable.
Strawberries.
Kohlrabi and savoy cabbage in the foreground, onions and heaps of garlic at the back.
Behind the wombok are some lettuces.
Wombok flour with insect. We're going to try and collect some seeds for next year.
Our fencing up the hill paddock.
A great effort by PJ, Judy and me.
PJ sorting out the water for our girls in their next paddock.
The back paddock - we were moving the girls to the next paddock over.
That's not a cow!
Our girls walking....
... and then running as they realise there is fresh new grass.
The mushrooms are out in force again!
Our first lot of garlic drying in the diningroom. There are still 4 more patches to clear.
The silverbeet. It's very tasty :)
Our lettuces.... Also very tasty!
Not to mention the strawberries... The sweetest little things you've ever tasted.
The cabbage is good too.
Early morning. It's supposedly summer but it felt frosty! Billie in the foreground.
Cold, but what a stunner of a morning!
Satchmo was too busy playing but I thought this was a beautiful morning.
Hmmm.... reasons to get up at 6am.
Example of our bounty this year... Beetroot, garlic, onions. PJ's picked onions, my first raspberry jam, Emma's milk and some butter milk, butter and various cheeses, wrapped in leaves and waxed.
PJ and our bounty :)
My edible flower patch has finally started flowering.... isn't this a lovely salad!
Satchmo rearranging the fire starter material in his room.
A beautiful misty morning.
The neighbours use super on their fields, we don't. Spot the difference :P
Stagboy on the wrong side of the electric fence.
Satch, watching the world.
The cows hanging around, a bit unsettled by the swan fight that happened earlier in the dam.
One lone swan left in the dam now.
Emma, cranky on this day.
Lone swan in the dam.
Chippie and Lucille, with their new calves.
Satchmo, finally back at my side.
The stick I broke in two hitting the ground when Emma was super cranky and unwilling to move.
Another beautiful morning.
Emma is Rufus' new favourite.
Spiderwebs everywhere...
Satch checking out the dam.
Standing by the side of the dam.
Two swans (the other two have gone) and Satch in the dam. Satch loves a swim.
Closeup of the two swans.
The dam with the house in the background.
Lone tree in the back paddock.
I would have picked this spot to build the house. It's right in the far corner of our property and very peaceful.
View from the back paddock.
Entering Sherwood Forest.
The far end of Sherwood Forest. Lots of blackberry bushes here - we must have collected kilos of blackberries this year!
Weird toadstool in Sherwood Forest.
Another weird mushroom in Sherwood Forest.
View from the far side of the big dam.
My second scything effort at the front of the house. I can do 3 rows before having big blisters!
Smoke cloud rising above the trees. This is from Forestry Tasmania throwing some napalm like firestarter over clearfelled forests.
Apparently the smoke doesn't affect the locals. I don't think I've been asked what I think about it though.
Ironically, look at the sunsets!
Truly amazing smoky sunsets. Thank you Forestry Tasmania :P
These cloud formations remind me of the clouds we saw in Patagonia.
The last of our pumpkins and some rogue spring onions.
PJ with some of our potato harvest. We already ate some and there are still more to be dug up. They are delicious.
Great with curly kale!
Look at the colour of our homegrown pumpkins.... I made soup with this one.
The beetroot (2 varieties) is doing well.
Curly kale! My favourite winter veg, we have 3 varieties and they are all scrumptious.
We had frost, but the mountains had snow.
A frosty berry leaf.
A beautiful frosty morning walk.
Only birds, the sound of water dripping, and a beautiful view.
Frosty grass.
Lunch... Courgette bread, leaves from the coldframe, scrambled eggs with Emma's cream. YUM.
Spiderwebs in the grass. They look so beautiful in the mornings.
Nature's own bonsai, growing out of an old tree trunk.
...and a closeup.
Things you see in our forest.
Another bonsai growing out of a tree trunk!
The new dam on the left. It filled in a week. The big dam looks even bigger because the edges were dredged out.
This was a Tuesday morning in May, when the sun was coming out through the fog.
I love our place when the fog is lifting.
Our newly cleaned out dam.
Our house in the background.
The new dam we had dug. The sun looks beautiful.
Looking back towards the grrrls.
The fallen over treetrunk in the front paddock.
Two paddocks and our house.
Beautiful bit of tree in Sherwood Forest.
Another odd looking tree in Sherwood Forest.
Looking down from our hill.
Closeup of grass with dew.
Grass, dew, and some spider webs.
Some more grass, dew, and spider webs.
Early morning seen through the kitchen door.
...as the sun was rising.
The pair of wild swans in the dam.
Feeding the cows, looking back at the house.
Tanya was over for dinner, and everybody wanted a cuddle with her, even the elusive Cannon!
Satchmo was very happy to see Tanya in the morning.
Cannon is starting to demand his cuddle, whether the big white thing is there or not. Satchmo on the other hand is not going to forfeit his seat on the couch either. Happy family LOL.
Jamahl coming over to pull PJ out who was bogged. Result: Two cars bogged in the field.
PJ working to get wood under the wheels.
Yay, one car unbogged!
Two sheepish guys who never get bogged.
One sheepish guy trying to save face, and a couple of blondes (who, let's face it, are a lot smarter than men think).
Two sheepish guys and a couple of blondes.
One of the blondes.
the resulting mud after being bogged. I'm sure the girls will appreciate.
Sunrise - on a very cold day.
Our little patch of almond trees.
A ~2kg Havarti... it was lovely, creamy, sticky and stinky on the outside, lovely creamy and mild on the inside.
Chris & Lisa visiting... we decided to climb Hartz Peak, despite the wild weather warning.
Close up - we're still laughing!
On the pass - soaking wet, hail, rain, sleet... Wind gusts that nearly blew us off our feet... we decided to leave the very top until next time.
A drop of rain ain't going to kill us!
Afterall, we did have large amounts of provisions in the form of jelly babies.
Sunday 16/8... Another cold, miserable day. We walked to Arve Falls. The lone tree reminds me of our little family unit. Standing alone, but resilient nonetheless.
19/8 - What's this????? Blue skies?????
The wattle is starting to flower, spring is coming.
Wattle closeup.
Wattle at the edge of Sherwood Forest.
Stringy bark with a bit of blue sky.
PJ feeding the grrrrls hay.
More flowering wattle.
PJ's semi submerged greenhouse. It currently also doubles as a swimming pool.
The entry to my cheeseroom - or my fromagerie as Chris calls it.
Two Cheddars and an Edam, and a couple of camemberts.
Camembert (bottom left) and Gorgonzola ripening in my cheeseroom.
My honkytonk piano!
Satchmo is my musical boy.... the only one living up to his name.
He always calms down when I'm playing. I was playing Blue Violin. Yep... the piano has changed location -- a bit further away from the heating.
What a sweetheart!!!
He also loves my piano practice. I'm learning a boogiewoogie at the moment.
Satch well asleep as I'm practising.
