Introduction
B'fly Atala Hairstreak Eumaeus atala on Nashia bush. Although they can be found here, they are still considered rare and threatened. Through efforts of many folks who spread their caterpillars around, the species is getting stronger and we see more of them every year.
Cats, Atala eumaeus on one of my many Coonties. As part of my volunteer work I present a workshop with PowerPoint on how to grow and propagate Coonties. Coontie plants are the only larval host of Atala butterfies.

This was the first to emerge at about 7:15 am.
After taking pictures of the first Black Swallowtail I ran in to get Deb, my wife to show her the newly emerged butterfly. She immediately spotted this second butterfly.
I ran back into the house to check the pictures on the computer. They looked ok for this time of day in the shade so I went back out to take more. I spotted this one #3.
Number 4. Just a few feet away from 1 & 2 but didn't see him for a while.
This one was number 5. We had walked past this one several times but didn't see it due to it being under a leaf. When we exit this area we go a different way so we kept missing it.
