The multidisciplinary adventure team is ready...
as long as we can begin with a fueling stop...
...and a strategic plan
designed by our fearless leader!
Here's the target area. So, off to the mountains we go!
Along the way, we worked hard...
...to keep going past the tempting scenery.
Getting to the first site required a tough climb...for the jeep. Everybody out!
That's steeper than it looks! The jeep made it just fine..
...but the team had a long arduous hike ahead.
The huffed and they chuffed...
...and hiked for at least five minutes.
Success! Made it to Elk Park, next to Almagre Peak.
Steve and Nola survey the landscape
Pete and Leslie T work out where we are on GPS and topo map
And the photographer enjoys another distracting view...before we moved on to site #2
Whoops! That boulder is too big to drive over, and the brush on the right is too close.
Time for a tug-of-war!
With everyone in place, it was just a matter of careful driving...
Line up those wheels...
...take a left at the rock...
...and a right...
...and a left...
...and we're past it.
Hooray! (Was there ever any doubt we'd get past?)
OK, time for some work. Let's plan this thing...
Pete gets to work with the increment borer
While everyone else manages the situation
Steve gets a hand in...
...before we all take a rest from all this hard work.
Done with day #1, the team returns to the jeep.
Day 2, Leslie H studies her bio books...
While Tori and 'Becca are ready for action!
Oops. The road to Almagre has an obstacle. See that drop on the right?
It goes straight down!
Time to smooth out the road a bit
And now we can get past
It was a close shave, but we made it
And well worth the effort. Day 2 was spent on the mound to the left...
Day three was to the right, where we discovered Graybill's trees.
This team is ready for action!
Plenty of trees for everyone to try their hand
All of us can do something to help!
