The original butler's pantry.
Note the exposed shelves - it's a fantastic spot for extra kitchen storage. The plan: built-in cabinets with doors.
We've had some extra time to think about what we want to do with this space since the project got pushed back from the flood.
Clearing out the contents of the pantry took longer than expected!
No more kitchen supplies, no more shelves....all that's left is cute Andy. We'll keep him. :)
Ugly formica counter top...bye bye!
Removing the ancient built-in cabinet.
Demo complete! Scary...? Nah.
Empty shelving area.
Fugly.
Doctor, I'm afraid the walls are in critical condition, this will take some time to repair. (Ask us how much we love these old plaster walls...careful, we bite.)
Walls repaired. Doesn't look like much but it's a couple of days worth of work due to drying time + sanding + drying time + sanding. There's some dust involved. Bah, patience!
Andy and his magic air gun - here he is framing out the window...much more framing to come as you might imagine. You'll also notice the walls are freshly painted to match the rest of the kitchen.
Preliminary placement of our new cabinet to figure out floor levels, measurements and assorted built-in tricks. This is only the beginning!
Here's the "built-in" sideboard topped with a dollop of granite. We shopped for granite remnants to save some coin and are feeling good about being green in the process.
With the addition of an electrical outlet, our wine is no longer banished to the basement. Yay!
Here's what we have so far. Now we just sit and wait for the delivery of the cabinetry above the wine fridge (on the right) and the granite install (on the left).
Granite installed! Here's our official endorsement: Matthew at Buy the Bundle (http://buythebundle.web.officelive.com/default.aspx), his prices are insane (good insane)! Seriously, we made out like bandits.
All of the trim work (window, door and cabinet surround) completed for this side of the room!
Lots of little tricks like these help to make it appear as if this was meant to be a built-in piece of cabinetry.
Cabinet's in and it fits like a glove! The install was a bit terrifying - it is really heavy!
Pull-out shelves rock my world.
The last item to finish the pantry was the glassware shelves. Andy custom built these and they are functional and look great (don't ever ask him to build triangular shelves though!)
