High School Retreat

High school students from the Hopi, Navajo, and White Mountain Apache nations came to AICM this weekend for two days of mud, snow, paintball and the GLORY of our GOD! This weekend was designed as a discipleship retreat for kids that wanted to get deeper Daniel helped our students to learn how to have an extreme faith in very extreme situations. Of course we had a lot of fun too. Capture the flag, paintball, group building initiatives and, new to AICM, a very VERY muddy obstacle course, all designed to help us learn to live life and stand together for the Kavod (glory) of God!! This weekend was a definite success and plans are already in the works for future discipleship retreats. We have big dreams for these retreats. Pray for us that in the future we may have more students from more reservations coming to learn to grow deeper in Christ!!

Owens Creek

At the beginning of the school year, we like to have the kids and staff have time to let loose and enjoy fellowshipping together. Owens Creek is one of our favorite places to do so. With the help of all kitchen staff, they grilled up a wonderful meal while the kids are jumping off the swing into the pond. The staff is visiting and listening to the kids laughter as they rollover the canoes. This is when you just sit back, watch, listen, and love! These are the special times when you take a breath, thank the Lord and hug the wet kids! “God is Good… All the time!”

Hawley Lake

On our field trip we met the John Hopkins staff and Elders at Hon-Dah and traveled through McNary on to Sunrise Lake then up to Hawley Lake. All along the way we were able to see the leaves starting to show their fall colors on sparkly Aspens, White Oaks, Sumac and other trees and shrubs. When we arrived at Hawley Lake, the John Hopkins team provided us a great lunch where we all sat close to the shore line of the lake. Some of us were able to get a glimpse of the Bald Eagle that flew over and others were able to see the great big fish that jumped up out of the water. Thank you Lord for allowing us to fellowship with one another and be in awe by your creation.

John Hopkins Teaching

On October 13th we had the privilege to have a field trip for the 3rd thru 8th graders that John Hopkins staff and Elders from the White Mountain Apache Tribe hosted for us. The field trip was done so we could learn about plants in the area that have been used for certain ailments and full body health. These have been used from generation to generation. Lola was one of the elders who seemed to be the most knowledgeable about the different plants. It was interesting listening to her and the other elders have conversations in their Apache Language. The plants that we were shown and dug up are used for headaches, body aches, colds, diarrhea, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, acne and hair growth. We also learned that you should only take what you need at any given time and you should pray and give thanks to our creator for giving them to us before digging them up.

Hay Ride - 2011

Fall time is beautiful up in the White Mountains and a favorite time of the year to many. Cool, crisp mornings, light dew on the ground, gold aspen leaves falling, and the warmth of the sun shining down. We know that Halloween is a very dark holiday for the kids on the reservation and we wanted them to be safe. What a good time to do a Fall hayride for the kids. On Halloween day, after school, the kids gathered up their coats and blankets and ran to the hay bales to save a spot. Once loaded, Gene and Andrew drove around through the woods to Kim Clark’s home. Once they arrived, there were games by Sherry, cookies, caramel apples and candy to be eaten. The kid’s just loved to have some free time and run around. The kitchen staff made a chili, and corn bread dinner and we all ate around the camp fire. We had a wonderful worship time and sang together under the clear night sky followed with good ol’ smores and praising God for how he has truly blessed us.
