Pumpkin Research

The kids visited a pumpkin research institute where they were comparing ground covering for growth rate and efficiency with pumpkins. They had three methods, bare ground, plastic covered ground, and a no till where another crop is planted ahead and laid down as the cover for the pumpkin crop. The plastic was most efficient.

Stepp Apple Orchard 2009

The kids visited Stepp Apple Orchard in Hendersonville. They went on a hayride through the orchards. They learned about soybeans and went through a soybean maze. They learned about corn and went through a corn maze. Then they tasted different apples and apple cider.

2009 WHEP Competition

This was a state wide competition called Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program. They had to identify animals, eating habbits, habitat and how to improve or modify an environment to improve populations or disuade populations. Very tough compeitition. It was held at Holmes Educational State Forest this year in Henderson County.
