Approaching Beerston and the Cannonsville Reservoir, traffic thins and houses become few and far between.
The Cannonsville reservoir is 20+ miles of decent sweepers and outstanding scenery.

You should to stop to enjoy the view, if you don't keep your eyes on the road, you might have an unwelcome encounter with a coyote, deer, raccoon, opossum, turkey, porcupine, bear or timber rattlesnake, they like this road too.
This is starting to look like a really nice day.
A clear road and a clear sky. What else matters?
Other than the road, there are very few signs of civilization.
Forty five years ago, this was a town.

The rest area immediately south of the Cannonsville bridge, can it get any better than this?
Most of the Cannonsville route consists of gentle sweepers, this one is a litte more fun than the others.
All good things must come to an end.
Take County Rt 48 into Downsville for some scenic farmland and some tight 90 degree corners.
Head east on Rt 17 (I86), it's a decent road for a slab!
17 has some decent high speed sweepers, with the traffic though, this rest stop is all you get until you ride it.
Leave the slab at Livingston Manor and pick up county route 81.
Follow the Willowemoc Creek on to county route 82, then it's over the hill on Brown Settlement Road.
There's mountains out there!
Continue on Willowemoc Rd.
The hills are rolling and gentle here, that's going to change.
From Round Pond, CR 47 is just down the hill.
In the Catskill, ponds and small lakes are on the gentle slope of the mountain. Guess what's on the other side!
This is the road we were looking for, CR 47 running parallel to the west branch of the Neversink.
This road winds through the valley, somewhat unusually for a NY road, it has both full lane lines and a forest canopy.
The widest part of the valley contains scenic pastures.
There are some twisties too.
Downhill ahead!
Cr 47 emerges on State RT 28 at Big Indian, the next stop is to the East.
It's scenic but somewhat limited in terms of corners.
As you get closer, the hills get bigger.
In Shokan, a right turn leads to Olive Bridge. The Ashokan reservoir awaits.

One last look, before picking up Rt 28A.
Now it's back NW on 28A then pick up county Rt 42. There's mountains ahead!.
As Rt 47 goes over the top, the terrain essentially a gorge with a road squeezed in.
This sign doesn't do this road justice, the twisties are TIGHT!
Almost went swimming here!
We have two more reservoirs to visit, to get to the Roundout, we need to head east on count rt 46.
This was a pleasant surprise.
At the terminus of 46, the Roundout reservoir appears, turn east on 55A
Round the eastern end of the Roundout and loop back to pick up State Rt 55.
Once on 55, head west.

State Rt 55 crosses the dam of the NeverSink reservoir, the eastern shore is colored by setting sun.
The western shore is in shadow, time to pick up the pace and get home before the forest rats come out.
The way home is west on 55 to Liberty, then west on 17 to Roscoe, over the hill to the Pepacton Reservoir, then back to Walton.
