The center piece with guide plate and rear bracket is fabricated from 2mm piano wire. The side pans are 1,5mm brass. The chassis is fairly heavy (31,7g) but lets see how it runs :-)
The hinge makes the front of the center piece function like a drop arm.
Simple, yet very strong construction due to the thickness of the Piano wire
The brass wire acts like a stop for the chassis movement. The front axle tube is kept in place by 4 2mm piano wire rods that are mounted in 2mm holes in the side pans
The hinge is simple - brass tube and a piece of 1,6mm brass rod. The small brass tube in front of the hinge is for the body mounting pins
The rear end of the piano wires are spread out to strenghten the rear motor/axle bracket.
I would'nt be a prototype if you did not have to change anything :-( - had to move the guide plate forward 5-6mm to get enough clearance for the guide to turn
had to put in some "spacers" from 2mm piano to cover the holes.
What about a Lotus ???
Or one more Eagle ??
After some thinking during the night (!) I found a way to mount the hinge behind the motor.
Hinge mounted on the main rail inside the rear bracket
I also added a round bracket at the rear to protect the Crown gear
Completed chassis, ready to roll :-)
rear end with "exhaust tubes" made of brass tubing
Lotus 33 body fitted to chassis
Everything OK - ready for painting and wheel inserts
Exhaust tubes solded to rear bracket
I thought it would be too heavy, but it weighs the same as my Eagle, so thats ok :-)
The new 1/24 McLaren M7A from John Dilworth aka HowmetTX - just beautiful !!!!
Nice engine details :-)
Had to shorten my newbuilt chassis to make it fit the M7 which has a 93mm wheelbase
Body trimmed to fit the chassis
The round oil reservoir was cut out and lowered a bit
Ready for the body
Roundels with numbers
Decals added
Homemade McLaren decals
Engine is painted
Nice engine details in a lexan body :-)
Both brake discs and wheel insert is homemade. Brake discs are printed on clear selfadhesive platic and mounted on selfadh. aluminium foil
Wheel inserts and discs in place
Motor details and body colour is done
Spark plug wires are added
Driver is added and body mounted on chassis. A great looking car :-)
mt
Decided to lighten the chassis a bit - this is the weight before
This is the weight after - not that much saved :-(
Can't make this much lighter without rebuilding it
