Road Trip to Wine Country

My Oldest Daughter invited me to come down for a tour of the Niagara Escarpment Wineries, as her Birthday Present for me. Great day if a little on the hot side but great companionship. A fine day with remaining fond memories. Doesn't get better than that.

Arrow & Zurakowski Memorial

A pleasant surprise on the Eastern edge of Algonquin Park in a Unique Village that traces it's roots to early Polish settlers. One of its native sons became the Chief test pilot for the A.V. Roe Co. of Canada and as such was the test pilot for the last indigenous fighter aircraft in Canada. The CF-101 Arrow. The demise of the Arrow program is and was very controversial. This park in "Downtown" Barry's Bay, tells the story of both. Truly worth a trip to see because not only will you learn something of Canada's History, you will drive through some of the most gorgeous topography you will find in this Province and get to see the great tribute one small Ontario village paid to one of it's own. There are a lot of Graphic programs around that allow you to all kinds of tricks with a photo but they are very expensive.In this album you will see images that I played with using only the features in Picasa.They are merely figments of my imagination but ones that look pretty decent when framed.As always, would be glad to see comments.

Backlit Fs - Floral and Foliage

Most of a photographers concern (so they tell me), is that of proper lighting. How to arrange your subject to take advantage of such light. This pool is different. In this mode I look for the amount of light that may be caught after being filtered through a petal or a leaf. I don't set out to do that but keep my eyes open (always a good idea) for a backlit opportunity. Probably because it allows you to be a little more artistic with what our creator gave us to work with.

Down Woodland Trails

Images of what you would expect to see when walking through the woods. That is a North American expression that in "Oxford Lexicon" would be as in "Walking through the Forest". Probably as we would use the expression (a walk through the Bush) would have a different connotation in S. Africa, yet in Canada, either of the expressions of "walking through the Woods or the Bush" are interchangeable.

Pretend Third Dimension

Sometimes a photo jumps out at you in what alludes to a third dimension and they always catch my eye. So when editting, I sometimes play around with light and colours to enhance that 3D feel. These photos will reflect my attempts at fooling the eye to think that it is a third dimensional image. It's fun to fool around with anyway. Let me know what you think or add some of your own adventurous edits. Comments always welcome.

Same Time Next Year-2010 Edition

Every year, three families meet in Tobermory, Ontario. Canada. Rather than explain the reason for being there in words, the images portrayed herein provides a cross section of every obvious reason there is. What is more difficult to define is the emotion and sentiment inherant to these visits. Perhaps the body language of participants will convey what is deeply felt for all concerned. Due to the public nature of the album, more detail and intimate portrayals are not included. They have been shared seperately.

Highway of Heroes

A stretch of Highway that is part of a major thoroughfare between Trenton and Toronto. Repatriated military casualties of whichever Canadian Military Operation they were engaged in; arrive at the Trenton air base for an official ceremony and are then transported to the Chief Coronor's office in Toronto. The Hearse led procession, travels this road and for that particular stretch, everyday people from the area, line the overpasses and by-ways to the highway with flags, banners and respect. This phenomena has been reported worldwide and now is officially labelled "The Highway of Heroes.

I like Trees and their varying shades of Green for Summer but mostly for their excitement of colours in Spring and Fall. Perhaps this album should be titles "Trees" but Green is an IN word so I chose Greenery and hope that the photos herein will reflect my love for them.

Same Time Next Year 2009

Annual Gathering of the Triumverate at the gorgeous fishing village turned boutique at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. The great bodies of water it delioniates are, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Georgian Bay does not officially constitute part of the "Great Lakes". However, those who lives in and on its peripheries will be quick to point out that by sheer dimension, grandeur and awesome forces of nature, this is and should be referred to as Georgian Lake, not a bay thus making the Great Lakes on title as it is in reality; a six figured entity, not Five.

My Little Gems

Photos I took because I wanted to. Photos that made me laugh or just simply a shot I like for whatever reason and needs to be on it's own in an album that really has no title. The shots are my own. If an error has been made and a photo, not mine, has inadvertently arrived here, please advise and my humble apology. I feel very strongly about respecting authorship in all manner of expression. It is an outreach from the soul, it is their very essence, and wealth of spirit. That should always be held, sacrosanct!

The Shepherd

While visiting the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum near Hamilton, Ontario, I took a series of photos as the very rare and airworthy Lancaster Bomber was rolled out of the hangar. This aircraft is a fully restored AVRO lancaster that served with the RCAF. The aircraft is named in honour of a Canadian pilot who was awarded the Victoria Cross (Posthumously) for conspicuous bravery while over Germany in 1944. A rendition of the Victoria Cross as well as the name of P/O Wynarski is detailed on both sides of the front fuselage. What caught my eye as I was sorting through the far too many exposures I usually take, was this elderly gentleman being very protective of his charge. You will see why I named this The Shepherd.

MS. Che-Cheemaun

Passenger/Vehicle Ferry between Tobermory, at he top of the Bruce Peninsula, S. Ontario, and the Village of Little Current on the Island of Manitoulin. Journey takes approx. 1.5 hrs one way. Manitoulin Island is the largets fresh water island in the World. It lies at the approximate confluence of Georgian Bay,Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. (See Map)

Story of BUK

Depicting the efforts to Save an original KLM B747-200 - PH-BUK- from the scrapper.The vernacular is in a childrens book format because the idea for the album came to me upon questions from a Grandson. BUK is now on display at the Aviodrome - Lelystad - The Netherlands. None of the photos are my own. Their copyrights and photographers names have all been duly saved and displayed. I thank them for their wonderfull portrayals. Particular thanks to W.Honders Photography for their advice.

Eugenia Water Falls

Near the Town of Thornbury, Ontario, On the shore of Georgian Bay, and on a fairly obscured unbeaten path, lies the Eugenia Conservation Area.
