"The start of 228. After WW2 ended, Taiwan came under Nationalist rule. Taiwan's resources went towards the Chinese civil war and many daily use items were declared contraband. On 227, a woman who sold contraband cigarettes had them taken away by agents, along with all of her money. An agent hit the woman, Lin Jiang-mai, on the head. When the crowd chased them, the agents fired and killed a person. Soon, riots broke out which were followed by violent suppression, eventually killing tens of thousands."
