Burrowing Owl
I still do a double take when I see this owl - like what is an owl doing out in the daylight? I have seen a few in burrows when I walk with Toby, they have a cute soft chirp, and while wary they are also curious. I think they are endangered in many places. How lucky to see one in the front yard, waiting in the shade on a very hot day, maybe hunting for food or to get a quicky drink from Toby's water bowl like the roadrunner, quail, finches and hummingbirds do. When the sprinklers went off it stayed in place, sometimes shaking its head furiously - I snapped one shot of the owl while standing in the sprinklers, looking so human while it stood with its wings at its side like human arms.
