Dunkin Donuts in Daejeon - to scratch an itch. I'd actually been dreaming about donuts on the trail. Note how nice it is in there. I'm not sure you would find one like this in the US.
Does this even need a caption?
Waiting in Daejeon for the bus to Songnisan NP to meet our friend coming from Japan.
The yellow ochre walk way in Songnisan. It's supposed to help with a whole host of ailments - including bad smelling feet. Chris would need to walk on miles of it!
The large standing Buddha at Beopjusa Temple in Songnisan NP.
Welcome Jeff! Our friend from when we lived in Telluride took the ferry from Japan and braved several bus adventures to meet us on the trail.
Jeff promptly got to bouldering. This makes my hands sweat just looking at the picture.
The sky is huge when you're on the ridge.
Sunset on the resivoir above Beopjusa.
My aunt that lives in Cheongju met us at the bus station on the way back to where we left the trail to met Jeff. She sent us off with the most enormous meal. We had to engage in a little sport eating before we got on the trail so we didn't have to haul it all on our backs!
Jeff's first full day on the Baekdu Daegan.
Chris found a tree that screamed "Climb Me!" and couldn't pass on the opportunity.
The daily ritual of getting water.
Walking through tempting apple orchards at the end of the day.
Overlooking the freeway near Hwa-seo.
Baekdu Daegan monument near Hwa-Seo.
Hwa-seo turned out to be our favorite little sleepy town along the trail. Here we have a little breakfast snack in front of a well stocked market we managed to visit three times in less than 18 hours.
Heading out of town to get back on the trail.
We've watched to rice fields go from bright green to golden yellow. This one is about ready for harvest.
Fall is showing almost everywhere now.
A solid pasta lunch before our big climb into Songnisan NP.
The forest looks quite different now than when we started.
