The LA subway. Yeah LA has a subway. It's an oft used mode of transportation as you can tell by this picture taken midday on a Friday.
After miles of walking, we finally found Korea town (and learned that there is a subway stop right in the heart of it that we completely missed). Josh was a very trusting and adventurous friend, agreeing to eat at a Korean restaurant of my choosing and then letting me order. He had kalbi and I had bibimbap. The resturant was lacking in decent panchan, but they made up for in quantity of food. The dishes themselves were quite good.
Korea town was very Korean--as seen by the sign behind me, and yet it was distinctly LA, it was all very spread out and I don't believe it is ever that hot and dry at the same time in Korea! Definately not enough neon to be Korea!
We had more sucess with the subway and finding Hollywood (probably because the stop was so named). This is the Kodak theater where the Academy Awards are held. It's kind of strange, but it's actually a upscale shopping mall with a theater and a very long entrance perfect to setup a red carpet.
Bird of paradise outside of the theater.
Josh with Paul Newman (well, his hand and foot prints at least) in front of the Chinese Theater.
The Chinese Theater. What a scene, all sorts of people selling you tours of the stars' home and people walking around in Star Wars, horror films and popular cartoon costumes. Sponge Bob was the best. Kind of a weird freak show, and yet it all totally seemed to fit.
Okay I'm a Harry Potter dork.
The Walk of the Stars. This was actually somewhat anticlimatic It's just a sidewalk, people just walk around on it. Pigeons shit on it. I'm not sure I'd like to have my name imortalized in a sidewalk...what is that building moments is just inviting people to tear it down or something?
Los Feliz. Another subway adventure. This was completely my fault. I misread the guide description and we got off at the wrong stop and did what we did most of the day...walked and walked and walked. We had coffee and drinks at this cafe. We were both taken by this little boy--kind of a bad ass chowing down on snails.
Next door to the cafe was this bookstore with resident cat--a short haired version of KC..and of course completely uninterested in us.

I'm not really a fan of grafitti art, but this is pretty impressive. For some reason I find the fact the guy is wearing a resiprator the funniest part of all. Of course fumes from spray paint are harmful, but it seems only in California, would people who engage in a slightly cultured form of vandalism be so concerned about their health. But I'm sure I offend someone by lumping vandals and artists together simply by comminality of choice of medium. ;)
There was a wall that you coudl graffiti on if you got a permit. I guess if you couldn't get a hold of a permit you could grafitti the palm trees.
Name on Rice.com...but what are the little dogs for...and where exactly are they going to run to if they got loose from the chair?

Just like Seattle, only sunny.
I couldn't resist taking this. He has a perfectly good chair. Maybe he's trying to make sure the tan on his back is even.
