A nice over view shot of the subject as a whole. This kit was released in 1997 (or there abouts), and is a nice, easy build. You can model it in the early or late versions, and it comes with summer and winter commander figures.
These are the new DML Winter Tank Riders. The poses are nice and look real for a change. Plastic figure have come a long way.
The "shrubbery" is Hudson & Allen. Very delicate and very realistic.
The inspiration for this camo scheme came from a Kagero Studios book, Panzerwaffe - Poland 1944. The blotches are wispy and wide spaced. It was an exercise in discipline to keep from overdoing the paint.
This model is depicting a 2nd regiment, 16th Panzer Division vehicle. I added my own creative license of course.
The large tank tracks are from DML's T34/76. I got them from a fellow modeler from the Motor City Armor & Figure Society. Having a good group of modelers for support and critique is a good thing. The trck on the front glacius plate are from the Pz. IV kit.
A tighter shot reveals I weathered more rust on the Russian track than the German. Also note the overlap of the tanks tactical numbers over the national cross.
A closeup of the tactical markings. Note the scratchs to the skirts from running threw heavy brush.
The mufflers were rusted using the Tamiya Hull Red and Tamiya pastels. The thick paint from the bottom of the bottle allows for a "caked" look to the metal.
This is a good shot showing just how delicate the natural camouflage is.
After painting, I used Tamiya's decal set for 1/35th and 1/16th scale figures. It saves me the agony of hand painting the details. This figure is cobbled together from Verlinden and DML parts. A bit of wire and pin stripe tape complete the look.
I cobbled this commander figure together from DML's LHA Tanker set. Unbeknown to me, I had a Tamiya figure that is posed EXACTLY like this.
The eyes are painted white, and I used Archer Transfers 1/35th scale eye balls. What a time saver.
The figure in the background looks like he is positioning for a better while trying not to get thrown off the tank.
DML's German Winter Tank Riders is a great figure set. I thought the poses looked natural and comparable to resin figures.
My figure painting is not "metal worthy", but I do like to place figures to show action.
