I have wanted to build one of these for a long time. With my 2008 AMPS visit, I bought the rope bumpers and cargo netting, and I was inspired to make it happen.
This, and the next picture, are examples of aperture settings and depth of filed. The DUKW is an excellent subject because of it's length.
With a small aperture, the wind screen is now in focus.
A nice top view of the cargo bed. The cargo is cobbled together from the parts box and some resin casts. There also some card board ration boxes to "fill the order".
The ropee bumpers have to be glued to the hull in order to make the angle look to scale. It took me many tries to without the glue to settle on this reality.
Adding the rope bumpers was challenging. I started from the bow center and worked around to the sides. I tied off the end, then CA glued the bumpers to the hull.
I am sure there was supposed to be a fancy sailors knot to lash the rope bumpers. I just "winged it".
Nice front 3/4 shot
The reflectors are painted silver and Tamiya clear orange is applied over that. There are many different star placements and sizes, so you can;t go wrong no matter what you use.
A close up of the cargo.
Another series of aperture study photos follows.
Big difference here from two photos before.
