"Hello Victor,
Yours looks in much better condition than mine plus it actually says "Leuchars" in one corner! Mine is mis-printed with "Piccadilly" in b oth corners. I guess the Victorian makers were as prone to fault as later makers."

"Victor, Believe it or not I have an identical set. My belief was that my pieces were prototype ones made up for submission with the design registration documents by AG Spalding. From memory the date was 1942. Perhaps we could start up an AG Spalding Prototype Chess Set Owners Club!"

"Stoller granted me permission to offer his 2002 work on my Picasa site.
https://picasaweb.google.com/chesspurr/CODEXCLASSIFACTION
Here in a very limited way I have tried to make a case
for supporting this system of identifying Jaques chessmen."
Guy Lyons
"Victor,
According to the creator of the Camaratta codex, a Frank Camaratta, your set is a Harwitz.
Frank stated to me that your set " is not extremely rare " but it is not easy to get , and it is not the only unfelted Jaques set .
The Codex is a method of identifying Jaques chess men, by a study of the Knight carving and piece turning profile .
In 2002 Robert Stoller wrote an account of Frank's research for all the CCI membership to enjoy."
Guy Lyons
"Hi Guy,
yes, this set is a 9cm king.I am not very familiar with the Camaratta code, what is my set called?"
victor stefan
"Victor ,
Can you confirm this set is a 9 cms king.
Also according to F Camatatta, there is an earlier set
which is also unfelted and unweighted that came in s slide
top box .
He is correct too, and the set is a " Morphy Harwitz ", I have
seen with my own eyes such a set . It is of Library size , also the
original box has survived ."
