Painting - Callista Project
Completed during July 2007, this corporate commission of 77 staff portraits was an exercise in what can go wrong with a project just when you think you've got it all worked out -The staff photos were emailed to the studio (studio@splatoons.com). My plan was to draw the portraits in pen and colour them in Photoshop (OK, it seemed the easy way out), laser print them onto heat transfers and iron those onto 45cm x 45cm canvases. The trial print worked fine, the second third and fourth, not so well at all - a complete disaster; in fact I found I'd made a drastic error in my production and with only 10 days to the deadline, hanging and public launch of the portraits, I got out the paintbrushes and went "old school" with acrylic paint against a ticking clock...and completed the job and delivered it with just hours to spare and a few more grey hairs into the bargain...
