Cheaha Skyway Trail (November 7-8, 2009)
The temps finally dropped enough to do a comfortable overnight out and back in Alabama's Talladega National Forest south of Cheaha State Park along the Skyway Trail. Just missed the peak of the trees changing colors. After getting a late start due to the drive up, I hiked the Skyway Trail from Adams Gap trailhead to a junction with an old jeep road, took a late lunch break & then back-tracked to Barbaree Creek to spend the night at a streamside spot. The flowing creek was pleasant to fall asleep to...but, as luck would have it, the 2nd annual Pinhoti 100 trail run was in progress from Heflin to Sylacauga. Starting about 4:30 Saturday evening, runners periodically passed the camp site well into the evening. Don't really know when the last runners passed the camp site but I still got a good night's rest.
