A fine walk on a lovely hot day over the Low Furness Fells from Ulverston Station to Askam Station. Sadly as i got higher the day got hazier, never mind though. Lots of interesting stuff to see and lots of new ground wandered.

Foxfield Round

A fine medium length walk with Feet first in Furness. We walked from Foxfield Station along the Cumbria Coastal Way then made our way along farm lanes and fields to the old Foxfield/Coniston railway line. From here we walked back through Broughton to Foxfield. A cracking wander in good company.

Kirkby to Askam

A grand wander on a glorious sunny day, the clarity was superb and the views were incredible. Didn't get wet, cut myself, fall down a hole or get bitten!! A first for me i reckon! I took the train to Kirkby and walked out along the sands to Dunnerholme then wandered along to Askam, great Duddon scenery.

Barrow and Ambleside

A few piccies taken from the yard of the moon and a 'red planet' followed by a sunset stride around Cavendish Dock. The last few shots are from a trip out with James up to High Sweden Bridge then a drive around to Blea Tarn.Good touristy fun.

A couple of 5 mile wanders from the house to the slagbank for a bit of sunspotting. Happily the sun played along as did the first quarter moon. Having no plans to head for the hills lots of local wanderings ahve been orser of the day(s).

Smardale

A slight diversion on our way home from Teesdale to visit the nature reserve of Smardale. A good level walk along a disused railway with fine views of the river, viaducts and Howgill Fells. Lots of interest along the way, plenty of birds about and apparently a good place to spot Red Squirrels. From here it was sadly back to Barrow after a lovely week of exploring in Lorraines (as usual) excellent company.

Goldsborough

Another murky day where we'd planned a decent walk but murky weather led us to the rocky knoll of Goldsborough, an amazing place that must surely have had a castle or settlement on it at some point. Apres walk we had a wander around St. Romalds church at Romaldkirk, a beautiful place.

Chapelfell Top

A valentines wander today but not in an area that looked particularly romantic, unless you like bleak, barren and windswept peat!! We parked at almost 630 metres (around 2,660 feet) and walked across a frozen, snowy... battlefield firstly to the unlovely Chapelfell Top then onto the much nicer Fendrith Hill, nicer as it had a view!! Too murky a day for much scenery to be honest but enjoyable apart for getting a frozen foot after a mishap in a snow covered stream.

A murky day led Lorraine and i to the zoo, a grand day out and free admission! My first visit and a real pleasure it was. I was surprised at how many different species they have there.Well worth a visit even if seeing animals caged can be a bit grim.

Walna Scar

A cracking walk with Ian Smith, we walked from Coniston up to Walna Scar and wandered along to White Pike and White Maiden in lovely snow conditions. The air was as clear as you could ask for and the views were incredible. A welcome meal at the Yewdale Hotel was a fine way to end a great day on the fells.

A glorious day spent wandering around Fell Foot and Elterwater. The gloom from earlier in the week had gone and it left the area clear, bright and sunny. Fantastic weather for walking and snapping away merrily. Thanks to Lorraine for a grand week of wandering.

Birk Fell

After five days of grotty weather, the clouds broke and Lorraine and I took advantage of it by driving to Tilberthwaite and following the path up the falls and onto Birk Fell. Fantastic scenery and clarity all the way. We returned to Tilberthwaite by way of Greenburn, home to many fine waterfalls. A grand day out spoiled only by..... nothing at all!!

Haverigg and Hodbarrow

A flat walk today, we chose Hodbarrow as it has some good scenery, NOT however when you have just started the stroll and a heavy sea mist comes in! Sods law at it's best! It didn't matter, it was just nice to be out and about in good company. Lots to see (no distant views though) and some interesting rocks to be found on the shore. Again, a pity about the weather but good fun no matter what.

Grizedale Forest

A poor weather forecast led us to Grizedale today, a day when you couldn't decide what to wear. Drizzle nearly all day but not cold. Bloody annoying! Good fun though. A good walk along the forest trails bumping into sculptures and tarns along the way. Shame about the weather though!

Today Lorraine and I met up with Robbie and Peter at Coniston TIC and had a good walk up Dow Crag. Lorraine and i chose the Walna Scar route while the other twain climbed up the gully route. A ridiculously cold and windy day for a walk but great fun in grand company.

Swinside/Sunkenkirk Stone Circle

Lorraine stopped for a few days so we opted for a bit of an off fell but scenic wander from Green Road (near Millom) up into the forgotten corner of the district that is Swinside. We visited the very impressive stone circle before heading up to Fenwick and then made our way down to Duddon Bridge before walking through Broughton to Foxfield to get the train home. A cracking day out where we let the train take the strain.

A grotty day meant no hills so Lorraine and i ventured to the mighty tor of Humphrey Head, wet and windy all the way (so was the weather). We called at holker Hall on the way back to see the deer and visit the expensive gift shop. The following day we headed for the South Walney Nature Reserve to see what we could see...

A day when Lorraine and I were meant to be walking Brae Fell and Great Cockup, sadly very heavy wind and driving rain meant we only managed to get as far as Brae Fell then we made a speedy retreat to Caldbeck. Not a good day but also not a wasted day.

Bowscale Fell.

A good walk from Bowscale taking in the hamlet of Mungrisdale before heading up alongside The Tongue and onto Bannerdale Crags, from there we retraced our steps and wandered up to Bowscale Fell before returning to Bowscale via Bowscale Tarn. Sadly the weather didn't play along and the vast majority of the walk was done in wind, cloud and rain. Good fun no matter and two more new fells for Lorraine.

Firstly a wander up to Bigland Barrow, very hazy but nice excfept for an incident involving deep mud and being attacked and chewed on by little pigs! A590 Fells.

A gloomy day on the Outlying Fells above the A590 with Ian, not rainy per se, but the neck deep bracken was VERY wet. Good fun no matter the conditions though. The second half of the album is on a better day with added fun of having the company of a local beast (Magic) as well as Ian. The only let down was the post walk food, microwave roast dinner the first time, stodgy fish n' chips the second time. Next time we meet, we will dine heartily!

Claife Heights.

A fantastic day on the lower hills around Windermere, we parked near the ferry landing on the West side of the lake and explored the woods, buildings and tarns on and around Claife Heights and Far Sawrey. This area is sorely overlooked and is a wonderful place to be in good weather. Surely one of the finest Lakeland walks i've shared with Lorraine.

Kirkby Park Wood

The last of the Woodland Walks for this year and a poor finale it was, I was 'tail leader' again and we found that the paths through the woods now didn't exist as the trees had been torn down, we had to make our way across branches, rocks and trees with no sure footing, the old ladies had a hard time here so i carried them and lifted them over obstacles. I've never been kissed so much!!! lol. Great fun even though nobody escaped unscratched/cut/bruised.

Zircus in the park.

A great night out at Barrow Park to watch NoFit States performance of Barricade. The leaflet says: 'A spectacular new open air showabout bridging the gaps, overcoming the obstacles and dealing with the disturbances that obstruct us from achieving our goals. An iconic set divides the audience and sets the scene for a maelstrom of aerial and acrobatic skills, powerful images of creation and destruction, comedy chases and a fireshow finale. Re-entertainment from Barracudas, Barrows Carnival Band and a firework finale from pa-BOOM!'. I have to say it was one the best nights out of my life, the performance was amazing, the stunts and singing were amazing, the music fantastic and the fireworks incredible, even though it peed down for most of the night.

Caudale Moor.

A fine walk with Lorraine on a stunning day starting from the Kirkstone Inn and taking in Caudale Moor, Hartsop Dodd and a knee wrecking descent to Hartsop. We caught the (extortionately priced) bus back to the Inn then stopped at Hammar Bank for some grand views of the langdale Pikes. Finally on the way back to Barrow we stopped at Netto, an unlikely place to find a fine array of Bee Orchids on the waste ground there.

South Walney Nature Reserve.

A good 15 miler starting at Biggar Bank then walking the coast to the nature reserve (where i was bombed and attacked by crazy gulls). A good wander around the reserve with a lot to see. Then i made the mistake of walking home. A seven mile trudge on tarmac. Still a cracking day, my feet don't like me anymore though.

Harmonic Fields.

A trip to Birkrigg Common near Ulverston with my Mam to have a look and listen at Lakes Alives promotion of Harmonic Fields. 500 Aeolian instruments powered by the breeze coming in off Morecambe Bay. Whitfell

Another lovely sunny day on the fells and in the woods with Lorraine on the quiet side of the Lake District. We walked from Corney Fell over Buckbarrow, Whitfell and Stainton Pike before taking in Burnmoor and Kinmont Buckbarow on the way back. We took a small diversion to visit Furncae Forge and then stopped for a quiet pint at the High Cross Inn at Broughton. Great day.

Eggerslack Woods

My first walk helping out with health walks for the Feet First in Furness, a voluntary scheme to help people get fit and out and about. The group ranged from late teens to mid eighties and was great fun. Our leader, Richard Scott was very informative and managed to persuade me to take my certificate in Walk Leadership. Not many photo's but hopefully this is the start of many local walks showing local people what the area has to offer.

A fine walk, initially with Simon but we soon met up with Richard and another Simon and enjoyed a great walk over Pike o' Blisco, Cold Pike, the Crinkles, Bowfell, Esk Pike and Rossett Pike. A wonderful long wander and good company and scenery along the way.

With zero sleep i decided to make the most of a fine morning and take Benj for a walk down Barrow docks, well worth it for the stunning sunrise. Later in the day i had a stroll down to Walney Channel for a (less than stunning but still nice) sunset.

A short walk from Ulverston to the newly restored Sir john Barrow monument, known simply as The Hoad. A wonderful structure with great views all around.

Gaping Gill

Another fine outing with the OFC, a pity the weather didn't play along. Some nice scenery along the way until the rain came (and stayed). Great company and great fun once again. : )

Witton Weavers Way.

A lovely day for a walk through Witton Country Park (near Blackburn) with Lorraine, fine weather and nice scenery and even a little hill to conquer. Nice to have a entirely new walk and good conversation along the way. We followed the Witton Weavers Way through the park and took in Billinge Hill before following the path down to the banks of the River Darwen, not the prettiest stretch of water! The last leg of the walk was a stroll to back to Witton Park via Pleasington Priory, a lovely building. Not even the muddy paths could take the shine off a lovely outing.

Westfield Nature Trail

A lovely walk from Rampside following the nature trail between the gas terminals. Lots to see along the way, plenty of birds and beasties and a good haul of plums was had, 5lbs each, Lorraine was really nice and let me carry hers too!
